Job Description:
Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.

To serve as the Manager of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Mountain Empire Community College. Responsible for managing an evolving information technology department that supports academic, student, and administrative technology needs. Ensures high quality and professional services are provided to all customers (Student, Faculty, Administrative Offices). Ensures proper functionality of services and hardware related to the network, as well as all computing activities for MECC and its global environment for all faculty, staff, and students. Responsible for legal compliance, system performance, long-range planning, and budgeting.
Serves as the Manager of Information Technology, reporting to the Vice President of Financial & Administrative Services. Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Center for Computing & Information Technology (CCIT) department and supervision of CCIT staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and managing the college technology plan and budget; oversees IT audits and reports on/prepares audit responses; direct supervision of IT staff; providing leadership in multiple functional areas to ensure the security and functionality of the college network operates smoothly and remains up-to-date technologically and legally; participating in college and VCCS committees and work groups related to IT planning and implementation.
This position is designated as a covered employee in a non-restricted position in accordance with Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) Policy 2.20. A non-restricted position is one that is funded by sources considered continuous or recurring, such as Educational and General Funds.
A covered employee is a salaried employee whose terms and conditions of employment are subject to the Virginia Personnel Act and who is employed in a classified position. - Experience developing budgeting and strategic planning regarding technology master plans.

Minimum required qualifications:
- Related technical experience in Information Technology/related field which may be substituted by a higher education degree in the IT field from an accredited college/university, or a combination of both experience and education to achieve related technical experience.
- Progressive experience with managing an IT department and/or IT project management
- Proficient in latest technology for IT systems and management.
- Broad technical knowledge of computing environments, networking, domains, operating systems, protocols, and communications.
Additional Considerations:
- A higher education degree in IT or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in higher education IT specific positions.
- Relevant information technology certification(s) such as Comp TIA Network+, Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), VMWare Virtualization or Microsoft Hyper-V, Cisco Meraki Solutions specialist, Microsoft 365 Administration.
- Previous supervisory experience of IT professional/department
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia policies and procedures related to technology management.
