JOB DESCRIPTION: Leads and coordinates the day to day operations of the Pharmacy Department which includes staff supervision, legal compliance and reporting, security of controlled substances, collaboration with other departments, and quality performance. Performs other related duties as required. Monitors expenditures and prepares financial reports to assist in preparing departmental budget. Coordinates nursing unit inspections for compliance with the regulatory standards set forth by the organization and by accrediting bodies. Oversees supply areas; monitors availability of commonly used pharmacological agents, equipment, and materials. Supervises staff and manages employee performance. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Plans and develops a work schedule; monitors, directs, and redirects workflow for efficiency and productivity to meet or exceed established standards. Assists in the development, revision and administration of departmental policies and procedures in accordance with state, federal and organizational guidelines; communicates with staff to ensure compliance. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Reporting/Data Management: Collects, organizes, and analyzes data and operational statistics to generate and provide accurate and complete reports for management and/or regulatory agencies. Maintains departmental records pertaining to personnel, continuing education, leave requests, tardiness and charting. Manages and oversees access to area which contains controlled substances; ensures that accurate records are maintained and that inventoried substances are accounted for in accordance with organizational, federal, and state requirements. Serves as a technical resource for physicians, staff, and other allied health professionals providing information and advice regarding the field of expertise. Participates actively on hospital committees and task forces to identify and resolve problems and to ensure departmental representation in the decision-making process. Promotes and encourages staff participation in continuing education programs and related activities. May develop and conduct in-services and educational programs for department staff and other allied health professionals in the organization. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy. Eligible for Georgia Licensure. Candidate is required to be licensed in Georgia prior to official start date. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required within 90 days. Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 6 months, if directly applicable to practice specialty. Four (4) years of hospital Pharmacist experience OR PG1 with two (2) years of hospital Pharmacist experience OR PG2; one (1) year of managerial experience preferred. Managers that are listed as the Designated Personnel for USP 797 Sterile Compounding must be Board Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist (BCSCP) or must obtain certification within 1 year of hire. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
