Overview:
The Manager – Planning serves as the enterprise planning authority for demand, inventory, and material flow strategies across PPL operating companies. This role is accountable for translating multi‑year capital programs, outage plans, and operational demand signals into integrated forecasting, inventory, and replenishment strategies that enable system reliability, capital execution certainty, risk mitigation, and working‑capital optimization across regulated utility operations.
The position owns the end‑to‑end planning framework, including demand forecasting methodologies, inventory segmentation, ERP planning configuration, and governance standards, ensuring consistent execution at scale. Acting as the senior escalation and decision authority for planning trade‑offs, the Manager – Planning balances service level risk, financial stewardship, and operational readiness while partnering with Operations, Engineering, Sourcing, Logistics, IT, Finance, and executive leadership to deliver a resilient, data‑driven supply chain.
This position may be based out of PPL's Allentown, PA or Louisville, KY corporate office.
Responsibilities:
- Define and govern enterprise‑wide demand planning, forecasting, and inventory policy frameworks, ensuring alignment with capital plans, outage execution, and system reliability objectives.
- Establish inventory optimization strategies, including safety stock philosophy, network and item segmentation, replenishment models, and service‑level trade‑off decision frameworks.
- Serve as the enterprise planning decision authority and escalation point for cross‑functional planning, inventory, and material availability risks.
- Direct enterprise demand forecasting for seasonality, capital projects, outages, abnormal events, and emergency response readiness, ensuring planning strategies support operational continuity.
- Own the enterprise material request governance model, defining approval standards, controls, and escalation pathways across work management processes.
- Establish enterprise standards for need‑by date integrity, material readiness commitments, and schedule adherence.
- Define enterprise standards for inventory location, stocking depth, and redistribution, balancing field responsiveness, carrying cost, and risk exposure.
- Partner with Sourcing and Logistics leadership to design material flow and fulfillment strategies that optimize responsiveness, resilience, and total cost of ownership.
- Lead initiatives to reduce excess, obsolete, and slow‑moving inventory, supporting disposition strategies and working‑capital improvement.
- Own enterprise planning KPIs, dashboards, and reporting frameworks, including forecast accuracy, service levels, inventory turns, obsolescence, and execution reliability.
- Act as functional owner for demand and inventory master data within PPL ERP systems, governing replenishment parameters, planning configurations, and data quality standards.
- Partner with IT to prioritize system enhancements, resolve planning issues, and advance system‑enabled decision support and analytics maturity.
- Leverage benchmarking and external best practices to identify structural improvement opportunities and lead planning transformation initiatives.
- Manage and develop a team of demand planning and inventory professionals, including performance management, capability development, and workforce planning.
- Establish enterprise expectations for analytical rigor, scenario planning, and data‑driven decision making, elevating planning maturity across operating companies.
- Build strong partnerships with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain leadership, and executive stakeholders to drive alignment and informed trade‑off decisions.
- Define and lead planning strategies for storm restoration and emergency materials, supporting PPL’s emergency response model.
- Serve in an assigned storm role, providing extended or after‑hours support during critical events as required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Engineering, Business Administration, IT, or other related fields.
Required Experience:
- 7 or more years in supply chain roles.
- 2 or more years of formal or informal leadership experience, including people and/or project leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- 10 or more years of experience in demand planning, production scheduling, logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, operations, project management or other related experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- 5 or more years in a leadership role
- Advanced experience in data mining, creation of complex spreadsheets and databases, and use of business intelligence tools.
- Proven ability to lead change in organizations.
- Six Sigma Certification
- CPSM and/or PMP certifications
