Reports to: Director of Patrol & Risk Management

Job Summary

The year-round role of DPS Manager manages the department of Public Safety at Mt. Hood Meadows and Cooper Spur. The department detects potential sources of security and safety hazards, coordinates emergency response, resolves disturbances, intakes complaints, investigates incidents, compiles reports and elevates information for appropriate stakeholders and organizations., and the design and fulfillment of safety and security measures at Mt Hood Meadows and Cooper Spur. Functions as a key contributor of security initiatives aligned with the guest and team experience. Collaborates with regional agencies, USFS, Search and Rescue, State, County and Federal Law Enforcement, as well as MHM/Cooper Spur leadership on matters of emergency response and emergency preparedness.

Manager Role

Responsible for all aspects of the department's performance. Responsible for managing the Guest Services team, assigning the work, reviewing quality, planning, organizing, coordinating, managing activities of all aspects of the identified operations and implementing policies and procedures as directed by making recommendations for procedure changes to streamline processes and increase productivity including enhancing employees and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to be insured as a driver by Mt Hood Meadows
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelors degree in criminal justice or related field, 4 years of experience in public safety officer role, or equivalent combination of education and experience in law enforcement, fire marshal or private security
  • 2 years' experience in supervisory role
  • Possess or ability to obtain DPSST Private Security Licenses (Unarmed, Manager)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to commit to working weekends and holidays
  • Must be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business.
  • Ability to work and stand outside for extended periods of time in adverse winter weather conditions
  • Experience in performance evaluation, training programs and records management

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience in large public assembly facilities is highly desirable
  • Hazardous Materials Training
  • Fire prevention / Suppression training
  • ODOT Traffic Control Training
  • Parking operations experience
  • Incident command / mass casualty training
  • Working knowledge of emergency response
  • Knowledge of key and lock systems
  • Knowledge of Mt Hood Meadows permit area and surrounding
  • Knowledge of Resort Operations and Mountain Operations
  • Knowledge of radio communications systems

Essential Functions of the Job

Responsibilities

  • Leadership

  • Develop, plan and implement DPS goals, objectives and process.

  • Uphold and promote the vision, mission and goals of the company

  • Create and update security procedures

  • Hire, train, coach and supervise public safety team

  • Coordinate and establish a comprehensive training program for DPS staff

  • Stay up to date on all Federal, State and County criminal and vehicle laws

  • Property Security and Loss prevention

  • Provide Loss Prevention for retail outlets and the company

  • Assist with ticket fraud investigations

  • Operate, maintain and monitor Security Surveillance System

  • Investigate internet fraud

  • Operate Radios, maintain radio inventory and repair

  • Public and Team Safety

  • Work closely with Human Resources to provide safe work environment for employees

  • Crowd Control

  • Respond to, deescalate and document guest conflicts

  • Assist Ski Patrol with investigations and boundary enforcement

  • Participate in Human Resources investigations

  • Coordinate with County, State, Federal and Forest Service LEO's

  • Enforce County, State and Federal Laws if applicable or upon LEO request

  • Assist Law Enforcement with investigations: respond to court for trial as required

  • Assist with Search and Rescue/ mutual aid Operations

  • Serve as incident command as appropriate

  • Provide excellent guest service and train team to be among the most knowledgeable individuals on-site to answer questions regarding most any operational subject at Mt. Hood Meadows (directions, events, pricing, food, etc.)

  • Perform Additional Tasks as requested by the Director of Patrol and other members of the Director and Executive Team

  • Carry out the Mission, Vision, Goals and Core Values of Mt Hood Meadows.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly walk, stand, sit, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop, balance, climb, and hike on steep and uneven terrain.

Reach with hands and arms, use hands for fine manipulation while wearing gloves, and safely operate manual and power-operated tools.

Lifting and/or carrying: regularly lift up to 40lbs independently and occasionally lift up to 75lbs with assistance.

Work around moving mechanical parts, machinery, fumes, and airborne particles.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and mountain environments.

Ability to perceive the relative distance of objects and maintain depth perception.

Ability to maintain close vision, peripheral vision, and adjust focus as required.

Ability to work in loud environments with exposure to power tools and machinery.
