Job Summary: 

Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Vernal Radiology Department. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards. Participates in and maintains performance improvement activities within the department. Ensures the competency of all personnel. Assists in formulating the budget. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while complying with all state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statements of the organization.
  • Understands organization goals for customer satisfaction (Healing Model) and strives to meet and exceed these goals.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
  • Formulates department action plans to foster employee engagement.
  • Assists in formulating the budget and is responsible for the fiscal operation of the department.
  • Develops appropriate and efficient staffing models and measures/monitors productivity.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Formulates a marketing plan to position the department as the center of choice. Gathers input from internal and external customers and professional associations.
  • Establishes and updates policies and procedures, ensuring they are in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Provides up-to-date information on regulatory and accreditation standards and supervises the development of action plans to maintain an atmosphere of regulatory readiness at all times.
  • Secures and maintains the physical facilities, equipment, and supplies required to provide effective patient care and create a healing physical environment.
  • Holds regular staff meetings to communicate financial, marketing, and key strategic directions to the team to ensure staff receive relevant information to be successful.
  • Ensures proper charge capture while keeping current with specific payer rules and regulations.
  • Understands methods of LEAN and utilizes tools to improve efficiencies and eliminate waste.
  • Formulates and reports ongoing quality improvement projects utilizing LEAN technique.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and the administrative team.
  • Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operations of the department. Prepares key reports detailing utilization, outcome data, productivity, etc.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Directs and participates in the human resource management function for the department by coordinating the selection, promotion, and performance appraisal process.
  • Establishes performance standards and evaluates personnel in accordance with the standards.
  • Directs the department's continuing education programs.

Regulatory Requirements: 

  • Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college-affiliated or hospital-trained. BS degree preferred.
  • Current Utah State license.
  • At least five (5) active years in a department with diagnostic and special procedures experience.
  • Current BCLS certification
