Manager, SRB Merchandising

We are hiring a SRB Merchandising Manager to lead a high-visibility category vertical (such as Upholstery & Outdoor or Casegoods) for Wayfair’s Specialty Retail Brands (SRBs), including Birch Lane and AllModern. In this role, you will own the multi-season category strategy, business performance, and product curation, ensuring our brand-led vision comes to life across all digital, print, and physical retail marketing channels.

As a vertical lead, you will manage a team of 2 to 3 direct reports while partnering closely with cross-functional partners to drive overall sales, margin optimization, and market share gains.

What You'll Do

  • Category Strategy & P&L Ownership: Define and execute annual and seasonal strategies including assortment, pricing, and promotional plans that deliver on sales, margin, and market share goals for your assigned book of business.

  • Assortment Curation & Shelf Placement: Decide what "earns the shelf" by developing assortment strategies, establishing shelf-space plans, and actively selecting or iterating on the product offering to address customer needs and competitive trends.

  • Supplier Relationship Management: Lead relationships with key strategic suppliers. You will negotiate terms, align on joint business plans, and drive durability through major shopping holidays, MAP/WSC compliance, and product newness.

  • People Leadership: Manage, coach, and develop a team of 2 to 3 direct reports, providing clear structure, constructive feedback, and growth opportunities to elevate the overall merchandising bar.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the vertical point person, partnering with Category Management, Sourcing, Pricing, Promotions, Brand, Creative, Marketing, and Operations teams to ensure clean, seamless strategy execution.

  • Market & Industry Representation: Represent the brands at key markets, supplier summits, and trade shows. You will drive sample reviews, analyze core competitive trends, and manage pipeline prioritization so market work translates directly to the business.

What You'll Need

  • Experience: Typically 4–6+ years of experience in retail merchandising, buying, or category management within a corporate retail or e-commerce organization. Prior people management experience is required.

  • Domain Knowledge: A strong passion for industry trends, style, and product design. Prior experience in home furnishings or furniture categories (upholstery, outdoor, or casegoods) is highly preferred but not required.

  • Data Fluency: Ability to cut data, analyze core business KPIs, and think critically about performance trends. You comfortably use data to size opportunities, make trade-offs, and manage profit/inventory.

  • Communication & Influence: An energetic, personable communicator with excellent written and verbal skills. You are effective at navigating contention, influencing senior stakeholders, and speaking directly with C-suite level suppliers.

  • Execution & Structure: A self-starter capable of independently translating broad objectives into structured plans. You are highly organized, can keep multiple complex workstreams moving, and operate autonomously without losing sight of the details.

  • Brand Alignment: Excited about brand-led merchandising with a strong ability to understand a unique brand aesthetic, vision, and customer base to bring it to life through a curated product assortment.

  • Travel: Periodic travel (approximately 20% of the time, or 4–6x per year) for trade shows, overseas sourcing trips (Asia/international), supplier visits, and market walks.
