A Brief Summary of This Position:

The primary function of this position is to ensure the company's compliance with U.S. tax laws and regulations and to assist in satisfying its tax filing obligations. The position will involve working with various areas of tax including, but not limited to, federal tax, state and local tax, and ASC 740. The position will assist in helping compile the quarterly and annual tax provision for the company, including gathering data from divisional sources and creating supporting workpapers and preparation of corporate federal and state income tax returns. This position will assist in the administration of the department's tax provisioning and compliance software. The Manager, Tax role requires a working knowledge of current tax laws and a willingness to expand that knowledge base through various resources provided by the company.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to the Sr. Director Federal Tax and has no direct or indirect reports but could evolve to have direct reports in the future.

  • The role requires up to 5% domestic travel, including overnight stays.

Federal Tax Compliance

  • Assist with the preparation and filing of the corporate federal income tax returns and related work papers.

  • Prepare quarterly federal estimated tax payment.

  • Research transactions of an unusual nature as they arise.

  • Ensure all filing dates are met to satisfy tax compliance obligations.

  • Determine 1099-MISC taxable amounts for the members of the board of directors.

  • File federal withholding forms and deposit payments related to board of directors.

State Tax Compliance

  • Prepare corporate state income tax returns and related work papers.

  • Prepare quarterly state estimated tax payments.

  • Monitor and implement law changes in relevant jurisdictions.

  • Research transactions of an unusual nature as they arise.

  • Review nexus activities by each legal entity on a periodic basis for tax compliance.

  • File Nebraska withholding forms and deposit payments related to board of directors.

ASC 740 - Accounting for Income Taxes

  • Compile and review tax accounting work papers on quarterly basis.

  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data to ensure accurate calculations of income tax liabilities.

  • Prepare quarterly reconciliation workpapers used in ASC 740 analysis.

  • Compile documentation necessary to complete the footnote disclosures in the Company's financials.

  • Work closely with the company's external auditors to provide appropriate audit documentation.

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Utilize tax, analytical, and problem-solving skills while working in a small team environment.

  • Focus on continual improvement to create efficient and lean processes.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or relevant field with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • 6+ years experience in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, local tax laws.

  • Ability to work under constant deadlines and prioritize workload accordingly.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Energetic and self-motivated team player with ability to work effectively with the small tax team and larger accounting teams.

  • Experience with ASC 740.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree - MBA, MSA or relevant.

  • CPA, CPA equivalent, and/or JD.

  • Experience with Corptax and OneSource tax provision software.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Up to 5% domestic travel, including overnight stays, required for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
