Manager, Transportation

Job Purpose

Align supply chain logistics solutions with the company's financial, order fulfillment, customer requirement, and sales strategies. Develop and maintain transportation management systems, processes, procedures, and networks to ensure the lowest possible cost while maintaining a high level of customer service and KPI adherence.

Essential Functions

• Manage the coordination and execution of all transportation activities across the organization
• Review transportation contracts and rate sheets; perform rate analysis/benchmarking for carrier RFQs as needed
• Manage the deployment, implementation, integration, and maintenance of our Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to promote supply chain optimization
• Serve as a liaison with transportation partners, promoting healthy and effective supplier relationships
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive viable solutions that generate cost savings and service level
• Promote supply chain network optimization, focusing on low cost, high service distribution methods
• Lead team that coordinates transportation providers and supply chain planning, sales, procurement, and customer service teams to ensure all internal and external customer needs are met
• Manage the processes and procedures for daily load tracking, daily/weekly reporting, and regular troubleshooting
• Develop and maintain carrier and team performance metrics including standardized carrier and planner scorecards
• Ensure all company and customer KPIs are met or exceeded; report on progress and develop action plans for improvement
• Lead carrier business reviews to address performance issues; develop action plans for improvement and provide follow-up
• Enhance current processes and procedures, creating and maintaining SOPs with a strong focus on best practice and continuous improvement
• Ensure adequate carrier capacity at all plants to meet customer orders and protect against market volatility
• Address all reported claims related to damaged goods by carriers and ensure company interests are represented when resolving claims
• Ensure carriers comply with all DOT carrier regulations
• Serve as backup for Director of Transportation and transportation analysts, planners, and coordinators
• Support food safety program, quality standards, and legality of manufactured products
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Competencies)

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations, business or relevant field preferred
• 5 years of supply chain logistics and transportation experience
• 5 years of proven work experience as a team manager or supervisor
• 3-5 years of experience managing Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
• Highly analytical; superior data mining skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong leadership and team-building skills with an intense desire to drive positive change and deliver results
• Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as seek proactive solutions
• Ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within an organization and collaborate with internal and external partners to determine requirements and eliminate barriers that may affect the delivery of product
