Job Description

The Takeda Tax Manager will support U.S. tax reporting, direct and indirect tax compliance, planning, and controversy activities while driving continuous process improvement through the effective use of tax technology, automation, data analytics, and emerging AI-enabled solutions. This role ensures accurate and timely reporting of federal and state income/franchise and indirect tax obligations (e.g., sales/use, personal property), while supporting US audits and projects.

  • Reviews and manages working papers, schedules, reports/memos, tax returns, and other items related to accounting for income taxes and tax returns necessary to comply with tax regulations.
  • Support the preparation and review of the quarterly/ annual US income tax provisions, developing tax provision workplans and ensuring SOX compliance.  Ensure accuracy of the work product provided to external auditors for quarterly / annual review.
  • Reviews and manages work related to US income tax compliance (estimates, extensions & returns).
  • Assists in preparing and reviewing documentation and responses for state and federal tax controversy.
  • Assist in the management of outsourced indirect tax compliance, including oversight of sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect tax filings; coordination with external service providers; audits and resolution of notices and compliance issues.
  • Evaluate and leverage tax technology tools, data analytics platforms, AI-enabled solutions, and other emerging technologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of tax processes.
  • Co-supervise, mentor and develop staff of highly skilled professionals plus management of contractor positions. 
  • Assist in monitoring changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the organization
  • Conduct technical tax research and document conclusions on complex tax matters

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: 

Required:

  • BS/BA in accounting/finance, CPA or MS in Taxation preferred but not required
  • Strong knowledge of U.S corporate federal and state tax law
  • Proficiency in tax research tools
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • High attention to detail, ability to assist on multiple workstreams
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with other team members both in US tax and other groups across Takeda.

Desired:

  • Proficiency with tax software and ERP systems (eg. OneSource, SAP, HFM, HTP, Blackline)
  • Experience implementing or utilizing tax technology tools, data analytics platforms, workflow automation, Power BI, Alteryx, Power Automate, or similar technologies.
  • Public accounting experience
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry

    • Ability to understand complex tax concepts and be able to apply those concepts
    • Applies tax and accounting concepts to prepare corporate tax returns
    • Calculates and reviews complex book/tax differences
    • Identifies and resolves specific issues for complex corporate tax returns
  • Communication – ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  

  • Hybrid work schedule
  • This role requires an onsite presence of at least 8 days per month, therefore candidates must live within a commutable distance of Takeda offices located in Exton, PA or Bannockburn, IL.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$116,000.00 - $182,270.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
