Managing Actuary
Location: Des Moines, IA (Hybrid)
Industry: Property & Casualty Insurance
A well-established and financially strong property & casualty insurance organization is seeking an experienced Managing Actuary to lead key actuarial initiatives and help drive strategic business decisions. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative leadership team and play a significant role in pricing, reserving, predictive analytics, and overall business performance.
Responsibilities
Lead the development of rate and reserve recommendations using advanced actuarial techniques.
Partner with senior leadership to support financial planning and decision-making through pricing, reserving, budgeting, and reinsurance analyses.
Direct predictive modeling and competitive intelligence initiatives, including model development, implementation, and performance evaluation.
Analyze internal and external data to identify emerging trends and provide strategic business recommendations.
Oversee actuarial projects from concept through implementation, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and business impact.
Manage and develop an actuarial team through coaching, mentoring, hiring, and performance management.
Collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, product, finance, data, and executive leadership teams to support organizational objectives.
Qualifications
FCAS designation required.
9+ years of actuarial experience within the property & casualty insurance industry.
Strong expertise in pricing, reserving, predictive modeling, and actuarial analytics.
Experience with actuarial and statistical software tools such as SAS, Emblem, or similar platforms.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams, projects, and strategic initiatives.
Ability to translate complex analytical findings into actionable business recommendations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
