    Managing Director, Excess Casualty

    Location: Remote (U.S.)

    Travel: Travel to their home office is required

    About the Opportunity

    A highly rated and well-capitalized specialty insurance organization is seeking a Managing Director to lead and expand its Excess Casualty underwriting platform. This individual will play a critical role in shaping underwriting strategy, managing portfolio performance, strengthening broker relationships, and leading a high-performing underwriting team.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic leadership for the Excess Casualty business across the United States
    • Manage and develop a team of underwriters while fostering a strong underwriting culture
    • Drive profitable growth through disciplined underwriting and portfolio management
    • Establish and strengthen relationships with key wholesale and retail distribution partners
    • Oversee underwriting guidelines, risk selection, pricing strategy, and authority management
    • Monitor portfolio performance and make recommendations to improve profitability and growth
    • Partner with executive leadership on business planning, market expansion, and product strategy
    • Represent the organization in broker meetings, industry conferences, and client-facing engagements
    • Recruit, mentor, and develop underwriting talent

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years of commercial casualty underwriting experience with significant E&S experience preferred
    • Demonstrated leadership experience managing underwriting teams and portfolios
    • Strong knowledge of excess casualty products, coverage structures, and market dynamics
    • Established broker relationships within the wholesale distribution marketplace
    • Proven track record of profitable growth and portfolio management
    • Experience developing underwriting strategies and driving execution across multiple regions
    • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
    • Bachelor's degree required

    Preferred Background

    • Experience at a specialty carrier, E&S carrier
    • Previous responsibility for regional or national casualty underwriting results
    • Experience building teams and expanding underwriting operations
    • Strong relationships with major wholesale brokerage firms
