The Opportunity
The Managing Funeral Director plays a key leadership role in supporting the day-to-day operations of two funeral home locations in the Pittsburgh area while contributing to the overall success of the funeral service operation throughout Western Pennsylvania. This position works closely with the Director of Operations to ensure exceptional service standards, operational consistency, regulatory compliance, and strong team performance across assigned locations.
What You'll Do
Staff Support & Development
Family & Community Service
Ensure families receive compassionate, professional, and timely service at every point of contact.
Assist with family meetings, services, and arrangements as needed, particularly during periods of increased volume.
Support community outreach, relationships, and reputation management within the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania markets.
Compliance & Risk Management
Assist in maintaining compliance with all Pennsylvania state regulations, health and safety requirements, and professional standards.
Support accurate documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping across assigned locations.
Help ensure ethical practices and adherence to industry best practices.
Financial & Administrative Support
Expense control and operational reporting.
Support revenue opportunities and efficiency initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Operations.
Monitor key performance indicators and assist with action plans to address operational challenges
What You Bring
Active Pennsylvania Funeral Director License in good standing.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive funeral service experience, including family arrangements, directing services, and case management.
Demonstrated leadership experience with responsibility for coaching, developing, and supporting employees.
Strong understanding of funeral home operations, regulatory compliance, and service excellence standards.
Experience managing multiple priorities and balancing family service responsibilities with operational and administrative demands.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with funeral home management software and Microsoft Office applications.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between assigned locations.
Multi-location management experience, business operations experience, or a degree in Mortuary Science, Business, Management, or a related field is preferred.
