Mandarin Chinese Translation Manager

The Chinese Translation Manager ensures high Chinese/English translation standards, tone of voice, company-centric terminology and house style guide standards across printed and digital media.

Leads a small translation team and work with key corporate team members in the company’s global market countries, to translate and manage the production of our key flagship printed and digital publications, marketing, business and sales pieces, as well as product labels, packaging and websites.

Works closely with internal teams to ensure consistency and integration of content and style across our printed and digital communications.

This is an on-site position in Greensboro, NC.

Responsibilities:

• Translate, edit and proofread all business/legal, sales, training, scientific, marketing and advertising materials as needed for growing international markets including e-communications, PowerPoint presentations and traditional paper documents

• Audit the company’s web sites an manage large volume content translation as needed

• Commission and oversee the work of other translation team members, freelance contributors and contractors as necessary

• Manage work orders and deadlines for team and self to effectively meet project requirements

• Track and prioritize all incoming and outgoing projects to ensure all projects are properly approved and delivered

• Develop and promote corporate Chinese translation standards, house style guide standards and appropriate “tone of voice” across all printed and digital media

• Record Chinese translation procedures on the department Wiki site and archive all files on the server

• Ensure accuracy of product information and content including legal and scientific claims

• Remain current on departmental and company procedures as well as technical and production issues

• Ensure translation team support materials and archive organization are current

• Complies with company policies and procedures

• Performs other duties as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Supervise team of translators: in-house, freelance or third-party companies

Education and Experience

• Preferably native Chinese speaker or fully bilingual

• Strong linguistic skills in Chinese/English

• High quality writing and proofing skills in Chinese and English

• B.A in Translation or equivalent related college degree plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in Translation

• ATA certification preferred

• Or combination of equivalent experience, education, training and supervising

Skills

• Must be technologically savvy in general and proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Experience using web-based translation and editing tools as well as CAT tools a plus

• Excellent organization skills, written communication skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve challenges

• Strong detail-orientation with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently and in a timely manner

• Ability to effectively prioritize requests

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and interact with different people to achieve your job responsibilities

• Work well autonomously as well as function as a key part of a team on projects

• Interpretation skills are also welcome

• Above moderate to high levels of English and Chinese writing, speaking and reading comprehension

• Moderate to above moderate levels of active listening, critical thinking, judgment and attention to detail

Working Conditions and Environment

• Intermittently lift, carry, pull and push up to 20 pounds

• Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands and fingers

• Frequently hear and talk

• Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders

• Exposure to electrical equipment, low noise levels, and mild indoor temperatures of hot and cold

• Constant use of computer

• Long or odd hours, as needed
