Ingram Marine Group is hiring a Manual Machinist in the Metropolis, IL Shipyard. The machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, repairing, and maintaining a variety of machine shop equipment to manufacture, modify, and repair precision components. This role requires strong blueprint-reading skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work to close tolerances in both shop and field environments. The machinist supports production, maintenance, and custom fabrication while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

 

What you will be doing:

• Setting up and operating manual machine shop equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, boring machines, saws, presses, and specialty portable machines • Performing machining operations such as turning, facing, threading, grooving, drilling, knurling, and cutting to precise tolerances • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, templates, and technical documents • Selecting appropriate speeds, feeds, tooling, and setups based on material and job requirements • Inspecting finished work using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges • Troubleshooting machining processes and adjust equipment to maintain quality standards • Repairing, dismantling, and reassembling mechanical components and machinery • Performing MIG and/or stick welding as needed for fabrication and repair • Sharpening, replacing, and maintaining cutting tools and grinding wheels • Conducting preventative and reactive maintenance on shop equipment • Operating overhead cranes and forklifts to transport materials safely • Creating or modifying custom components as required • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment • Performing work in indoor and outdoor industrial environments, including confined spaces when necessary • Communicating effectively with team members, supervisors, and customers • Traveling to customer job sites as required and support field machining assignments • Following all company safety policies and quality procedures

 

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent • 1-2+ years of manual machining experience or relevant technical training • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills • Ability to meet productivity and quality standards • Valid driver's license (for field assignments) • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Willingness to work overtime and extended shifts when required • Ability to travel for field work as needed

 

Preferred:

• Experience as a machinist, millwright, mechanic, or field service technician • Welding experience or certification • OSHA or industrial safety training • Non-destructive testing certification • Advanced machining or technical certifications

 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

• Lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs • Stand for extended periods and perform frequent walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing • Work in confined spaces and around heavy equipment • Exposure to noise, vibration, temperature extremes, oils, and industrial environments • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality

 

Schedule:

• Full-time position • Standard shop hours Monday-Friday - 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM • Overtime, weekends, and extended field assignments may be required

 

Pay Range: $26.07 - $33.00 hourly, depending upon experience and skill level
