Job Summary
The Manual Machinist will set up and operate manual machines to cut, shape, and form metal workpieces according to established standards and specifications. The role requires the ability to read specifications, determine machining procedures, set up tooling, troubleshoot machine issues, and inspect finished workpieces for accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate manual machines to cut, shape, and form metal workpieces while meeting established production standards.
Review specifications to determine:
Machine setup procedures
Machining sequence
Finished workpiece dimensions
Perform necessary machine adjustments, attachments, and assemblies according to setup instructions. Assemble cutting tools in toolholders and position toolholders in machine spindles or specified machine magazines.
Monitor machine operation by observing and listening for malfunctions, including worn or damaged cutting tools.
Measure finished workpieces to ensure conformance with specifications and notify Quality Control of any discrepancies.
Adjust machine feed, speed, and cutting tools as needed to meet specifications.
Troubleshoot machining issues when automatic programming is faulty or when machine malfunctions occur.
Machine a variety of materials, including:
Metal
Composites
Plastic
Rubber
Assist with training new or temporary employees as needed.

Required Qualifications
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; OR
Approximately 2 years of related experience and/or training; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in written and verbal English.
Basic mathematical skills, including:
Geometry
Basic algebra
Ability to solve practical problems and work with situations involving limited standardization.

Written form
Verbal form
Diagrams
Schedules
