We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Machinist in Portsmouth Virginia!
Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain DBIDS
Must have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Manual Machinist
Must have high school diploma or GED
Must have experience operating lathes, grinders, boring mills, planers, and portable machining tools preferred.
Must have experience with turning, drilling, tapping, boring, honing, and polishing processes.
Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and precision measuring tools.
Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including fractions, percentages, ratios, and measurements.
Strong understanding of machining practices and mechanical systems.
Experience with turning, drilling, tapping, boring, honing, and polishing processes.
Large-part machining experience preferred, including ship propulsion shafting and steering gear components.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and equipment in industrial and shipyard environments.
Job Duties entail but are not limited to:
Transport and set up tools, machinery, and fixtures to support machining operations at customer sites and company facilities.
Perform machining operations using portable milling machines, clamshell lathes, line boring systems, grinding machines, hydraulic tensioning systems, and various hand and power tools.
Take accurate measurements using precision measuring equipment.
Properly select, align, secure, and remove fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials.
Recognize and properly use inserts, tooling, and machining fixtures.
Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of equipment using hand and power tools.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to complete assigned tasks.
Determine proper tools and machining methods required for specific repairs and operations.
Operate lifting devices and material handling equipment as needed.
Communicate with customers and government representatives to coordinate onsite work activities.
Track parts, labor, and jobs using JobBOSS and Travelers systems.
Complete inspection reports and document as-found conditions for completed work.
Schedule:
Monday – Saturday 3pm-11pm
Must be willing to work overnight where needed and flexible to work OT
Pay:
$20-$35/hr based on experience
