Manual Machinist
1st Shift
Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Manual Machinist -- 1st shift in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace and fabrication industries.
Responsibilities:
- Cut and shape the part using a combination of lathes, presses, grinders and cutting machines which are both manual and computer-controlled
- O.D. and surface grinding on manual and CNC grinders.
- Checks the tool's dimensions with precision measuring instruments like micrometers, gauges and calipers.
- Must be self-motivated and willing to produce high-quality, value-added product.
- Operates production equipment to produce products in accordance with production needs.
- Sets up machine with the proper program, tools and material for specified part.
- Produces assigned products in accordance with verbal and written instructions.
- Checks part to ensure accuracy to print.
- Notifies team leader immediately of any problems when running a part.
- Fills out production paperwork, follows shop system data collection procedures and follows inspection procedures on a daily basis.
- Performs scheduled maintenance and inspection on equipment per machine specifications
- Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner to include returning tools to designated areas.
- Notifies management of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions, and or personal injuries.
- Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
- Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
- Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School Graduate with technical training or equivalent (combination of education and experience)
Previous experience with manual equipment/processes.
Ability to work in a safe manner and follow all safety procedures.
Ability to learn new skills and technology as it pertains to business and fabrication needs
Ability to read engineering drawings
Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
Intermediate mathematics and computer skills
Mechanical Skills

Ability to stand for long periods of time
Metals USA offers a competitive starting hourly rate of $21.00 - $24.00 and benefits plus upward professional growth.
