Overview
We're hiring Manual Machinists for our precision aerospace machine shop in Tuscaloosa, AL.
This is high-mix, low-volume job-shop work: complex parts held to ±.0005", made on manual mills and lathes from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instruction. You own each part end-to-end, from setup through final inspection.
The work rewards a blend of manual fundamentals and CNC proficiency.

Responsibilities
- Setups: Set up and run manual mills and lathes from blueprints.
- Workholding: Select tooling, establish offsets, and build workholding strategies.
- Inspection: Verify ±.0005" tolerances with micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
- Rework: Review finished parts and adjust to achieve first-article success.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose dimensional and tooling issues as they arise.
- Documentation: Record quantities, time, and material use in the ERP system.
- Lean/5S: Keep the work area safe, organized, and efficient.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of manual mill and lathe machining experience
- Complete high-complexity setups
- Strong blueprint reading skills
- Reads technical drawings and applies GD&T
- Comfortable in Imperial and Metric
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred
- 2-year Machine Tool Technology Certificate
- CNC machining proficiency
