Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Overview / Summary

We are seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer to support manufacturing process engineering activities and drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivity. The ideal candidate will apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to improve manufacturing processes, reduce variability, and support lean manufacturing initiatives in a production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing process engineering activities
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to improve manufacturing processes and products
  • Develop action plans to investigate quality concerns and verify corrective actions on internal and supplier processes
  • Lead and conduct process audits to ensure adherence to established guidelines
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Analyze inventory root causes and support mapping and corrective action initiatives
  • Create process and instruction sheets supporting quality methods and processes
  • Support Trim and Chassis Assembly operations with capable processes and tools
  • Lead variability reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, and environmental standards
  • Support ISO auditing and compliance activities
  • Identify throughput constraints and drive root cause improvements
  • Work fully onsite in a manufacturing environment

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (internship or co-op experience considered)
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years of experience in the automotive industry
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
  • Experience with 8D and 5 Why problem-solving methodologies
  • Understanding of Lean tools including 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Familiarity with DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) methodologies
  • Knowledge of TQM and Kaizen methods
  • Experience with FMEA, PPAP, and DOE methodologies
  • Experience with Visual Factory Management
  • Ergonomic analysis experience
