Job Description

About JLG, an Oshkosh company

JLG began in 1969, when our founder, John L. Grove set out to resolve growing safety concerns in the construction industry. Since then we have been committed to understanding the challenges and delivering innovative solutions to the access market. We partner with customers to provide quality equipment, training opportunities and trusted support within the access industry. We are a global company, and our products-including mobile elevating work platforms, telehandlers, utility vehicles and accessories-can be found all over the world.

The Manufacturing Engineer supports manufacturing operations by developing and improving processes, tooling, equipment, layouts, and assembly methods. This role serves as the primary engineering resource for assigned production areas while supporting broader facility needs as required.

The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach, working regularly on the production floor to understand problems firsthand, engage with team members, and drive solutions through implementation. This role requires strong ownership, communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited day-to-day direction

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering resource for assigned production areas while supporting other facility needs as required.
  • Work directly with production, Safety, Quality, Materials, Maintenance, and other functions to identify problems, determine root causes, and implement practical solutions.
  • Design, prototype, and implement manufacturing tooling, fixtures, workstations, and material-handling solutions using 2D and 3D CAD.
  • Lead manufacturing engineering projects and engineering changes through assessment, implementation, and validation, coordinating impacts across tooling, processes, materials, quality, safety, and affected stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain standard work instructions and manufacturing process documentation.
  • Perform time studies, capacity analysis, line balancing, value stream/process mapping, layout analysis, and other industrial engineering activities to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, ergonomics, and productivity.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement activities and events within assigned manufacturing areas.
  • Develop project estimates, cost justifications, ROI analyses, and capital improvement proposals.
  • Manage multiple projects and production-support priorities while communicating status, meeting deadlines, and independently driving work toward completion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Engineering or related field.
  • One (1) - two (2) or more years of experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience creating and modifying 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Ability and willingness to work regularly in a manufacturing environment and spend significant time on the production floor.
  • Experience with Creo Parametric.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, heavy equipment, automotive, fabrication, or assembly environment.
  • Experience designing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, workstations, or material-handling solutions.
  • Experience with standard work, time studies, capacity analysis, line balancing, value stream mapping, process mapping, or manufacturing layout development.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, Kaizen/continuous improvement, root-cause analysis, and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience leading projects from concept through implementation, including cost justification, ROI analysis, or capital requests.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with common hand/power tools, fabrication methods, and assembly processes.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The following represents general working conditions for this role. Specific conditions may vary depending on business needs and individual circumstances.

  • This role combines office-based administrative duties with physical activity in field or production environments.
  • In the office setting, tasks may require extended computer use, sitting, and attending meetings.
  • Field or floor work may involve walking across various terrains or shop floors, standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, and exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.
  • Must be able to shift focus between detailed cognitive work and occasional physical tasks as needed.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities to support performance across both office and field responsibilities.
