Position Summary:
The BOM Specialist is responsible for creating, maintaining, and validating accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for fabricated parts, weldments, assemblies, and equipment installation packages. This position serves as a critical link between Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Planning, and Costing by ensuring product structures, material requirements, routings, and manufacturing data are accurately reflected within the company’s ERP/MRP system.
The BOM Specialist will support new product introductions, first articles, engineering changes, resource planning, inventory accuracy, product costing, and production efficiency. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read engineering drawings, and an understanding of manufacturing processes and flow.
Responsibilities:
- Create, review, and maintain multi-level Bills of Materials for fabricated, machined, welded, painted, assembled, and integrated products.
- Collaborate with Engineering to ensure drawings, specifications, and product configurations are accurately reflected in BOMs.
- Validate BOM accuracy by comparing engineering drawings, CAD models, work instructions, and manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production to establish production routings, operation sequences, and estimated takt times.
- Estimate material consumption requirements for raw materials, hardware, components, and purchased parts.
- Support new product introduction and first article activities by creating initial product structures and manufacturing data.
- Maintain part master data, revision levels, product structures, and process routings within the ERP/MRP system.
- Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), ensuring timely implementation and documentation.
- Analyze BOM discrepancies and resolve issues affecting production, inventory accuracy, and product costing.
- Audit ERP data to ensure it accurately reflects manufacturing processes and conditions on the production floor.
- Generate and maintain reports to support BOM accuracy, engineering changes, product management, and continuous improvement.
- Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Warehousing, Costing/Finance, Planning, and Supply Chain to improve accuracy and information flow.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures related to part number creation, engineering files, part files, and BOM creation.
- Utilize ERP, CAD, nesting, and other manufacturing software tools to support production and engineering processes.
- Train team members on ERP system best practices and proper data usage when applicable.
- Identify opportunities to improve data integrity, manufacturing efficiency, and ERP processes.
- Ensure routing steps and manufacturing processes support safe and efficient production.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, systems/process management, ERP systems, or a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with engineering and manufacturing software such as SolidWorks, Radan Nesting, Infor Syteline, or similar systems.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, material requirements, production routings, and workflow.
- Experience creating, maintaining, or managing Bills of Materials is preferred.

Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is eligible for a bonus.
