Our large manufacturing client located in Peoria, Illinois, is looking for an entry-level Manufacturing Engineer to add to their team.
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving manufacturing processes to ensure efficient production, high product quality, and compliance with customer requirements. This role owns key process development documentation and supports product launches and ongoing production through robust planning and validation activities.
Key Responsibilities
Process Risk Management (PFMEA)
- Own and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) documentation creating family specific PFMEA(s) when necessary.
- Lead PFMEA updates based on process changes, quality concerns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify process risks and implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate potential failures.
- Ensure PFMEA alignment with Control Plans and manufacturing processes.
Process Flow Development
- Own and maintain Process Flow Diagrams that accurately map manufacturing operations.
- Update flow diagrams to reflect process improvements, ECNs, and layout changes.
- Ensure consistency between flow diagrams, PFMEA, and shop floor practices.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Prepare and compile Part Submission Warrant (PSW) documentation.
- Ensure all manufacturing-related inputs to PPAP are complete, accurate, and aligned with customer requirements.
- Support cross-functional teams during PPAP readiness and submission.
Part-Specific Packaging
- Develop and implement Part-Specific Packaging solutions to ensure product protection and compliance.
- Validate packaging designs through testing (e.g., transit, handling, storage conditions).
- Collaborate with quality, logistics, and customers to meet packaging standards and requirements.
- Drive improvements in packaging efficiency, cost, and sustainability.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor''s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 2-5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role.
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
- Familiarity with APQP and PPAP processes.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- PFMEA methodology and risk analysis.
- Process flow mapping and manufacturing process documentation.
- PPAP requirements including PSW preparation.
- Packaging design and validation methods.
- Familiarity with AIAG Core Tools and requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering/documentation systems.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration.
- High attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and timeliness of PFMEA and Flow Diagram updates
- Reduction in process risk and failure modes
- On-time and successful PSW submissions
- Packaging performance (damage reduction, cost efficiency, compliance)
