Nammo Perry is a center of excellence for the design, development and production of munitions and pyrotechnic products for the U.S. Department of Defense. Nammo employees working at the Florida site manufacture all types of 40mm low and high velocity ammunition; pyrotechnic marking; signaling and tactical illumination devices; battlefield effects training simulators; demolition charges; hand grenade fuzes; and other ammunition components. Additionally, they provide load, assemble, and pack (LAP) services for large caliber direct-fire ammunition.

The Manufacturing Engineer I is responsible for driving continuous process improvement in the manufacturing process through efficiencies: minimize down time, improve throughput, and minimizing waste. They will collaborate with their Program team in assessing, developing and executing process improvement initiatives and operational enhancement programs that deliver strategic value and profitable growth for their business.

What You’ll Do: Precision in Action

  • Develop, document, and implement technologies, methods and techniques to drive cost and quality improvements while ensuring compliance with quality systems and company standards
  • Document and maintain all process documentations, including but not limited to: Bill of Materials, Process Flows, Work Instructions, FMEAs, etc
  • Obtain training in the use of risk mitigation tools (FMEA) to use as part of the process review and drive risk mitigation using FMEA and PSSR
  • Develop, enhances, implement and maintain manufacturing methods, techniques, processes, and tooling on fabricated parts, components, subassemblies and final products
  • Provide direction for development, maintenance, and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Development, Quality, Manufacturing, and Purchasing functions as well as suppliers to conduct problem-solving activities
  • Provide training to associates
  • Actively maintain knowledge of new technologies, methods and techniques
  • Participate in Operational Excellence activities including Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen events
  • May lead or participate on special projects assigned
  • Identify, plan, and execute projects to achieve capacity, cost, yield, reliability and /or cycle time improvements
  • Provide input into annual capital budgets to provide operational improvement and risk mitigation
  • Raise Purchase Requisitions
  • Advise on machinery or components for production needs, i.e. spare parts, new equipment and tooling
  • Identifies, defines and measures improvement opportunities for assigned projects
  • Ensures compliance of plant ergonomic standards for new tooling and processes
  • Reviews new parts and make recommendations to standardize features, promote cost-effective zero-defect manufacturing, and improve functionality that support DFMA
  • Work closely with user to configure system for new processes, new parts, review material structure and create and/or update use points
  • Makes critical contributions to managing and solving complex and/or large technical challenges using best practices and new perspectives
  • Provides consultation on plant design, process equipment, tools, techniques, and regulations/codes
  • Provides technical support on components, methods, systems and equipment
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
  • Ensure EH&S compliance and support culture to continuously improve Safety performance
  • Implement and maintain Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics for production lines
  • Measure, calculate and evaluate cycle time, takt time and throughput of new processes/lines
  • Responsible for communicate and coordinate introduction of PCRs and DCNs
  • Support logistics to coordinate delivery of right part number and level material at the use point
  • Establishes and maintains accurate production standards using determined time tools
  • Interfaces with plant personnel to accomplish timing, manpower and production goals
  • Collaborates with the materials organization on defining and refining material organization and placement using Lean Principles
  • Supports Visual Daily Management and drives daily short-term countermeasures for timely resolution of production discrepancies and/or downtime

What Dedicated Teammates Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working in manufacturing is required
  • Advanced knowledge of explosives and pyrotechnical operations and/ or experience working with and around hazardous chemicals/environments
  • Experience in auditing and reviewing manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge of standard quality system requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lead a team if needed
  • Advanced knowledge of MS suite applications. Analytical skills – advanced skills in Excel; MiniTab also preferred
  • Working knowledge of DoD 4145
  • Working knowledge of PSM
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of statistical concepts and how to apply them to development and production processes

  • Hands on technical knowledge, mechanically inclined preferred

  • Knowledge and experience with preference in a variety of Lean tools such as, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, Daily Visual Management, 5S, 5Whys, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, Problem Solving Process, and Visual Project Management.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting challenging deadlines.
