We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team in Rochester, NY. Key Responsibilities:

  • Tooling and Fixture Design: Design specialized tooling, fixtures, and processes that support the precision manufacturing of optical components.
  • Technical Support: Provide crucial support to production, engineering teams, and suppliers, helping to resolve process-related challenges and improve outcomes.
  • Innovative Process Improvement: Research and implement cutting-edge technologies in process development, driving continuous improvement in precision manufacturing.
  • Develop and execute metrology plans for lenses, objectives, projection systems, imaging assemblies, and optical instruments.
  • Perform optical characterization using interferometers, MTF systems, autocollimators, collimators, profilometers, and related equipment.
  • Manufacturing and Quality support.

Required Skills:

  • A passion for solving complex manufacturing challenges and improving processes through innovation.
  • A collaborative spirit with the ability to support cross-functional teams in engineering, production, and supplier management.
  • Technical writing skills
  • Presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate professionally
  • Strong experience in interferometry, optical testing, and general shop metrology.
  • In-depth understanding of optical specifications and fabrication processes in line with MIL and ISO standards.

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of interferometry, MTF measurement, wavefront analysis, optical alignment, measurement uncertainty, GD&T, and optical tolerancing.
  • Experience with optical test equipment such as Zygo interferometers, Trioptics/ImageMaster systems, collimators, autocollimators, or imaging-performance measurement systems.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing (optics preferred)
  • Experience in optical metrology, precision measurement, optical testing, product development, or a manufacturing environment.

We offer competitive compensation, benefits, retirement (401k) and paid time off programs. Compensation and position level will be set based on experience.
