Manufacturing Engineer, Powertrain Manufacturing Development

Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development of innovative manufacturing equipment and processes for our high voltage distribution and drive unit assemblies.

In this role you will design and prototype automation equipment to support process validation and pre-production builds while providing essential Design for Manufacturing feedback. As you guide new products from concept to production your efforts will drive high volume equipment process and design. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with Product Design Operations Facilities Production and Quality Engineering teams to create products that set industry standards for performance efficiency reliability and production volume all while solving industry-first challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Develop manufacturing processes for existing and new products
• Design automated and semi-automated tooling to support process validation and prototype builds through all phases of the product cycle
• Provide Design for Manufacturing feedback to Product Design Engineering
• Manage the procurement construction and deployment of automated production equipment
• Manage suppliers during specification design buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
• Ramp high volume manufacturing equipment to meet acceptable performance before handoff to operations
• Identify and drive continuous improvement and cost reduction programs
• Generate and maintain machine documentation

Requirements:

• Ability to travel 10% of the time both domestically and internationally
• Experience in mechanical design of machinery and manufacturing engineering or similar role
• Experience designing and prototyping automation tooling for proof of concept or low volume pilot manufacturing lines
• Experience with manufacturing processes including fastening press joining laser welding ultrasonic welding dispense leak testing machine vision and part feeding
• Proficiency using 2D & 3D CAD to generate engineering drawings manufacturing layouts e.g. Solidworks Catia AutoCAD
• Experience working with automation systems robotics PLCs and data collection systems
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

Expected Compensation: $91,600 - $316,800 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location job-related knowledge skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
