Title:  Manufactuing Engineer - New Product Development

Location: Sturtevant, WI  (Some travel required)
Hire Type: Contract 6mo+
Compensation: $44-46hr

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support new vehicle-product development and improve existing assembly operations. This position will work across Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to develop production processes, improve line capacity, troubleshoot equipment, and rebuild or replace legacy tooling and fixtures.

The ideal candidate combines mechanical and industrial engineering experience with a strong understanding of assembly processes, equipment, tooling, and Lean manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing methods and processes for new and existing vehicle products.
  • Partner with Product Development, Production, and Quality to influence designs and apply Design for Manufacturing principles.
  • Design and improve production layouts, equipment, workstations, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and improve manufacturing equipment alongside maintenance technicians.
  • Evaluate legacy machinery, tooling, and fixtures and develop cost-effective repair, rebuild, or replacement solutions.
  • Support equipment startup and resolve production issues affecting uptime, quality, and throughput.
  • Assess line capacity, cycle times, staffing requirements, and production constraints.
  • Estimate equipment, tooling, labor, and production costs for new designs.
  • Identify and implement changes that improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Apply Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement methods to reduce waste and improve workflow.
  • Prepare manufacturing-process documentation, work instructions, layouts, and engineering procedures.
  • Support tooling and equipment development for new-product launches.
  • Complete additional manufacturing-engineering projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of manufacturing, mechanical, industrial, tooling, or equipment-engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience within a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Understanding of production equipment, tooling, fixtures, and assembly processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment and supporting machine startup.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Experience evaluating production capacity and process efficiency.
  • Proficiency with 2D or 3D design software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent automotive, tool-and-die, equipment, or manufacturing experience will be considered.
  • Automotive or vehicle-manufacturing experience.
  • Tool-and-die or fixture-development experience.
  • AutoCAD or Creo proficiency.
  • PPAP knowledge.
  • Experience rebuilding or replacing legacy production equipment and tooling.
