Manufacturing Engineer
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is a key member of the engineering and manufacturing team, responsible for bringing new product designs into production and supporting the ongoing improvement of manufacturing processes.
This position develops, implements, and maintains manufacturing methods, operation sequences, processes, tooling, and documentation for electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assemblies. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with customers, suppliers, production teams, quality, supply chain, program management, and other internal stakeholders to support new product introduction, improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain high levels of quality and reliability.
The role requires strong technical knowledge, analytical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participate as a manufacturing/process engineering representative on cross-functional teams supporting new product introduction activities.
Support product and process reviews, production planning, scheduling, and new product launch activities.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to coordinate the successful release of new products.
Serve as a technical resource for manufacturing, engineering, quality, supply chain, and production personnel.
Provide DFM/DFA/DFX feedback and recommendations to improve manufacturability, efficiency, cost, and quality.
Review and interpret engineering documentation including assembly drawings, CAD files, Gerber files, bills of materials, schematics, and technical specifications.
Develop labor estimates and manufacturing process requirements for new and existing products.
Define assembly processes, product flow, materials, methods, equipment, and tooling required for production.
Develop and maintain detailed manufacturing processes, work instructions, and other documentation necessary to support repeatable and consistent production.
Configure and maintain bills of materials, routings, and manufacturing documentation in accordance with product requirements.
Implement customer and internal engineering changes throughout the product lifecycle.
Support configuration management and engineering change control processes.
Develop and maintain PFMEAs, process control plans, and other manufacturing quality documentation.
Coordinate time studies, line setup, line balancing, capacity analysis, and other manufacturing engineering activities.
Develop and implement tooling, fixtures, automation, and process improvement projects.
Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide sustaining engineering support to production teams.
Conduct root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to manufacturing issues and non-conformances.
Analyze manufacturing data and use statistical methods to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Support supplier quality and manufacturing-related technical issues as needed.
Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, production personnel, and internal stakeholders.
Manage multiple priorities and projects while meeting established deadlines.
Demonstrate strong judgment, problem-solving ability, teamwork, flexibility, and self-motivation.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, such as Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
5–7 years of experience supporting electronics, electro-mechanical, or high-reliability manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of PCBA/CCA manufacturing processes.
Working knowledge of DFM, PFMEA, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma principles.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and statistical analysis skills.
Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts and software.
Knowledge of applicable manufacturing and quality standards, such as:
IPC-A-610
IPC J-STD-001
IPC-7711/7721
ANSI/ESD S20.20
Experience working within quality management systems and regulated manufacturing environments, such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO 13485.
Ability to interpret engineering documentation, including schematics, technical drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and develop practical solutions.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
Experience with 3D modeling and 3D printing.
Knowledge of additive manufacturing.
Experience with manufacturing process automation.
Experience with tooling and fixture design.
Experience with Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience working in aerospace, defense, medical, semiconductor, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel parts, tools, and equipment.
Ability to occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to perform detailed visual inspections of components, assemblies, and documentation.
Close vision and ability to adjust focus are required.
Work Environment
This position operates in both manufacturing/production and office environments. The employee may work in ESD-controlled areas and around manufacturing equipment and moving mechanical components. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.
