Description Leidos is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to work for the Homeland business unit in Vista, CA. The Homeland business unit designs and manufactures highly complex security equipment for use at border crossings, airports, seaports, and other transportation mechanisms. Our products include radiation detectors and spectrometers, X-ray and gamma ray scanners for cars, trucks and trains, and CT explosives detection equipment for airline passenger baggage.The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing of a variety of products (Radiation Portal Monitoring Equipment & VACIS Non-Intrusive Inspection Systems) and developing processes that ensure a consistent and quality-focused approach to product manufacturing. This position requires a comfort level working on the shop floor, side by side with our manufacturing and service teams. This role will solve daily production challenges, support the production schedule, and drive ongoing production improvements. The roles and responsibilities may change from time to time without notice and include but are not limited to the roles described below.Responsibilities Analyze existing production processes and implement Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or Six Sigma techniques to lower production costs, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.Create and maintain Manufacturing Bill of Materials and Work Instructions for new product introductions, sustaining production and service support.Establish and monitor quality control standards, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and minimize safety risks in the production environment.Improve manufacturing efficiency through the development, implementation, and maintenance of rigorous processes, tools, schedules and metrics.Analyze technical parameters for obsolete parts and identify sources for direct replacement parts that meet form, fit and function requirements.Support the assessment and collaborative resolution of complex cross-functional technical issues amongst multiple diverse stakeholders.Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process.Maintain current data and provide status on technical and schedule performance issues.Develop standardized design criteria across product lines where possible.Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 2+ years of experience.
