Job Purpose
Heat Treat / Materials Engineer responsible to lead, create, and implement engineering activities and technical solutions by performing, assisting scheduling, & overseeing daily heat-treat activities in the manufacturing of Ferrous Engine / Transmission components. Provides technical analysis on heat-treat processes and equipment. Investigates and implements equipment and process efficiency improvements to optimize cycle time, production, quality, and overall costs. Researches, develops, tests, and implements new technology where applicable. Continuous development / testing / implementation of cost down activities focusing on total cost (manpower, productivity, scrap, and reliability/repairs).
Key Accountabilities
- Metallurgical analysis, heat treat furnaces oversee and advanced troubleshooting
- Review and analyse daily report(s) utilizing PDCA to identify safety, environmental, quality, cost, delivery, and morale (SEQCDM) gaps and develop potential countermeasures and /or root cause analysis opportunities striving for continuous improvement.
- Monitor/support equipment and processes to ensure optimal manufacturing performance and function while minimizing operating expense.
- Engage in FSI/loss elimination theme development and implementation
- Develop and present project/theme activity to department and plant management
- Develop capability of self, colleagues, and team through training, mentoring, and sharing of experiences in area of technical expertise and understanding.
- Manage project implementation for equipment related projects (budgets, schedules, specifications, equipment installation/start-up)
- Test, evaluate, and implement new and innovative technologies to improve overall equipment and process efficiency.
- Effectively communicate upstream and downstream to all levels of the organization to assure common understanding and direction.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelors or Associates degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, Material Science or relevant experience
- 0-6 years experience based on education.
- Strong interest in manufacturing
- Positive attitude, open minded & team player
- Ability to solve complex problems thru analysis to propose and implement appropriate countermeasures based on timing, quality, and cost
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities such as strong communication skills (written and oral) and problem solving
- Strong self-motivation and desire to work in a manufacturing environment
Working Conditions
- Work environment includes both office and production floor
- General manufacturing work environment with heat treat and Machining
- Production floor includes exposure to machining chips, coolants and oils on a daily basis
- Working with hand/power tools, automation equipment, quality gauging and instrumentation
