Manufacturing Methods Technician – Level II

The Manufacturing Methods Technician – Level II is an experienced, self-directed member of the Manufacturing Methods team responsible for leading hands-on workstation builds, tooling fixture setup, and production process improvement initiatives. This role works with greater independence, applies advanced machining or fabrication knowledge, and supports the development of Level I Technicians as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the build-out, modification, and improvement of production workstations, custom tooling fixtures, drilling setups, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Set up, adjust, and safely operate hand tools, power tools, drill presses, grinders, precision measuring instruments, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, sketches, CAD printouts, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Fabricate, modify, and troubleshoot fixtures and tooling to meet production requirements.
  • Evaluate fixture performance and recommend improvements for reliability, safety, quality, and ease of use.
  • Study production processes, time studies, and workflow sequences to identify waste, bottlenecks, redundancy, or safety concerns.
  • Develop and present improvement recommendations to the Manufacturing Methods Manager with supporting observations or data.
  • Lead or support pilot tests of new workstation layouts, tooling changes, and process methods.
  • Document process changes and assist with SOP and work instruction updates.
  • Apply machining, fabrication, or CNC experience to support in-house tooling and fixture component development.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors, engineers, quality personnel, internal machining resources, and outside vendors.
  • Provide informal guidance and on-the-job training to Level I Technicians.
  • Uphold and model safety, quality, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, machining, fabrication, mechanical trades, or a related production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated ability to build, modify, and troubleshoot production fixtures and tooling.
  • Proven critical thinking skills with the ability to independently analyze processes and recommend practical improvements.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, CAD printouts, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document findings clearly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or vocational/technical certification in manufacturing, machining, industrial technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with CNC turning, manual lathe, vertical or horizontal milling, or other machining operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, or standard work.
  • Experience writing or updating SOPs and work instructions.
  • Prior experience in outdoor furniture, aluminum fabrication, marine products, or contract manufacturing environments.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position operates primarily on the manufacturing floor with exposure to machinery, tools, noise, and standard industrial conditions. PPE is required and provided. The role requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, using tools and equipment, reading drawings, taking measurements, and lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed.
