Manufacturing Metrology & Compliance Technician — Magna Engineered Glass

Why this role matters

  • Our customers expect zero-defect glass assemblies. You’ll be the point person ensuring our product and process controls meet IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
  • Your analysis of SPC data and measurement system performance prevents escapes and stabilizes processes.
  • When a risk appears, you lead swift containment and escalate or stop production to protect the customer.

Core accountabilities

  • Inspect and test product using approved methods, fixtures, and measurement systems to confirm conformance to internal and customer specs.
  • Plan and execute audits of products, processes, and documentation against IATF 16949 and CSRs; document findings and verify closure.
  • Track, analyze, and act on SPC signals; trigger containment and initiate corrective actions when trends emerge.
  • Lead/support customer and in-house sorts, re-inspections, and containment; train operators to perform off-line checks.
  • Administer corrective and preventive action activities (8D/MDCAR), including cause analysis, action planning, and effectiveness checks.
  • Investigate internal and customer nonconformances; inspect returns, define disposition, and coordinate rework, scrap, or additional controls.
  • Perform Measurement System Analyses, including fixture reliability and R&R studies, to maintain accuracy and repeatability.
  • Develop/execute inspection and testing procedures in alignment with control plans and Quality Engineering guidance.
  • Support launches and engineering changes—quality plan inputs, inspection setup, validation testing, and early production containment.
  • Create/maintain visual standards and inspection criteria with Manufacturing and Engineering.
  • Update control plans, inspection plans, IPICS, and control charts using SPC results, audit learnings, and CAPA outcomes.
  • Represent Operations Quality with internal teams and customers on issues, results, and control limits.
  • Compile and present quality metrics, including monthly and customer-mandated reporting.
  • Handle hazardous materials and waste per EHS procedures; comply with all safety and regulatory requirements; promptly report hazards/incidents.
  • Contribute to a collaborative culture; perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & skills

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or technical certification (Quality/Manufacturing/Engineering Technology) preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in manufacturing quality; automotive/IATF 16949 experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 and CSRs; familiar with internal quality systems.
  • Proficient with inspection/testing and basic metrology; reads engineering drawings/specifications.
  • Skilled in SPC, data analysis, and structured problem solving (8D, MDCAR); experienced with CAPA, audits, and containment.
  • Strong communicator; partners cross-functionally and interacts with customers as needed.
  • Safety-focused with knowledge of manufacturing safety protocols; comfortable on the shop floor and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish bilingual preferred.

Environment & travel

  • Time split: Office 30% / Plant 70%.
  • Extended walking/standing; routine computer work requiring near/far/depth/color vision; typical keyboard/mouse use ~3 hours/day.
  • Exposure to machinery, moving equipment/materials, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and variable temperatures.
  • Occasional travel (~once per quarter) to meetings, sub-suppliers, and gauge/automation shops for gauge R&R and safe-launch support.

Physical requirements

  • Stand 6–12 hours per day.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds multiple times per hour.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, turning, lifting.
  • Repetitive hand use including gripping, grasping, pinching, and squeezing.
