Based in Hartford, CT, you will guide a union production team in a fast-moving industrial environment, ensuring people, processes, and equipment work in sync to hit safety, quality, and output targets every shift.

Role Snapshot

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, openings on 1st and 2nd shift; overtime and occasional weekends based on demand
  • Compensation: $70,000–$80,000 per year
  • Reports to: Production Manager

A Day in the Life

You begin with a floor walk—confirming staffing, reviewing overnight performance, and aligning with maintenance and quality. You coach your team through start-up, monitor workflow and equipment utilization, remove bottlenecks, and keep production on schedule. Throughout the day, you reinforce safe work practices and housekeeping standards, document results, and hand off a clean transition to the next supervisor.

Your Impact

  • Direct and coordinate all activities on your shift to meet output, quality, and cost objectives
  • Coach, train, and support team members to build capability and accountability
  • Allocate labor, balance lines, and adjust plans to maintain takt and on-time completion
  • Champion safety policies, enforce procedures, and sustain a clean, orderly workplace
  • Track KPIs; communicate results and key issues to management and incoming supervisors
  • Quickly resolve issues related to production flow, staffing, or equipment
  • Partner with Maintenance, Quality, Shipping, and other functions to keep operations running smoothly
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and production specifications
  • Maintain compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and foster positive union relations
  • Complete shift reports, production summaries, and required documentation with accuracy
  • Advance continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, throughput, and reliability

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Production, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or industrial operations (required)
  • Experience leading union teams (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems, production flow, and shop-floor operations
  • Clear, confident communication and strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Analytical mindset with solid problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; ERP or production tracking experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and pivot as priorities change

Work Environment & Safety

This hands-on role spans office and plant floor settings. Appropriate PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear) is required on the floor. Expect exposure to moving equipment, airborne particles, industrial noise, and variable temperatures.
