Manufacturing Quality Inspector

V&M Precision Machining & Grinding is seeking an experienced Quality Inspector to join our aerospace manufacturing team. This position is responsible for performing receiving, in-process, first article, and final inspections of precision-machined components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and V&M quality requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background inspecting complex, tight-tolerance machined parts, excellent blueprint and GD&T knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced machining environment.

Responsibilities

• With minimal supervision, inspect precision-machined components using blueprints, engineering change orders, customer specifications, and established inspection procedures.
• Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections of machined components.
• Perform receiving inspection of raw materials, purchased components, and parts returned from outside processing.
• Review and inspect parts following outside processes including heat treat, gun drilling, honing, chrome plating, cadmium plating, anodizing, painting, grinding, and other special processes.
• Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and coordinate with the Quality Manager in the preparation and completion of AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).
• Perform dimensional and visual inspections to verify product conformity.
• Perform in-house calibration of inspection equipment including calipers, bore gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
• Properly use and maintain precision inspection equipment including:

  • Gauge blocks
  • Dial indicators
  • Height gauges
  • Optical comparators
  • Dial and digital calipers
  • Pin and thread gauges
  • Surface plates
  • Romer Arm, when applicable
• Identify and document nonconforming conditions and communicate inspection findings to Quality, Production, and Engineering.
• Work directly with machinists, supervisors, and Engineering to resolve dimensional, inspection, and manufacturing issues.
• Communicate with suppliers and outside processors regarding quality issues when required.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and supporting quality documentation.
• Ensure inspection equipment is properly calibrated and within its required calibration period prior to use.
• Support V&M's AS9100 / ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
• Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience inspecting precision-machined parts.
• Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring and inspection equipment.
• Experience inspecting close-tolerance CNC machined components.
• Ability to independently determine whether product meets drawing and specification requirements.
• Ability to clearly communicate with machinists, supervisors, Engineering, Quality, suppliers, and management.
• Experience working in an AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to prepare spreadsheets, inspection reports, and quality documentation.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make appropriate inspection decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerospace manufacturing experience.
• Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
• Romer Arm experience preferred but not required.
• Experience inspecting complex milled, turned, and ground components.
• Familiarity with aerospace special processes and their associated certification requirements.
• Experience inspecting hardened steels, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace materials.
