Manufacturing Supervisor - CNC Machining

A well-established precision manufacturing company in the western Chicago suburbs is seeking an experiencedManufacturing Supervisor to lead its 2nd shift machining operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who started their career as a CNC Machinist, Setup Machinist, or CNC Lead and has progressed into a leadership position. The Manufacturing Supervisor will oversee machinists and production personnel, coordinate daily production priorities, and ensure the department meets expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise CNC machinists and production employees on 2nd shift.

• Coordinate daily production schedules, machine assignments, staffing, and workflow.

• Monitor productivity, quality, scrap, downtime, and overall department performance.

• Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting for machining and production issues.

• Work closely with engineering, programming, quality, maintenance, and production planning.

• Ensure employees follow established machining processes, work instructions, safety procedures, and quality requirements.

• Coach, train, and develop machinists while holding employees accountable for performance.

• Assist with resolving tooling, setup, machine, and production issues that could impact delivery.

• Maintain clear communication between 1st and 2nd shift leadership regarding production status and priorities.

• Support continuous-improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput.

Ideal Background

• Previous experience in a Manufacturing Supervisor, Production Supervisor, CNC Supervisor, Machining Supervisor, Shop Supervisor, CNC Lead, or Machining Lead position.

• Strong preference for candidates who began their careers as CNC machinists and progressed into leadership.

• Hands-on knowledge of CNC milling and/or CNC turning operations.

• Strong understanding of machine setups, tooling, blueprints, tolerances, and general machining processes.

• Experience leading machinists or other skilled manufacturing employees.

• Comfortable troubleshooting production issues and working directly with machinists on the shop floor.

• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.

• Experience in precision machining, aerospace, defense, gear manufacturing, or other tight-tolerance manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
