Manufacturing Systems Integration Engineer

A day in this role

Your morning begins on the production floor, walking a high-volume assembly area slated for a new product launch. You review layout changes, verify error-proofing steps, and sync with operators and maintenance on equipment readiness. By mid-day, you are in AutoCAD refining a plant layout aligned to Lean principles and validating labor models for the next ramp. In the afternoon, you host a vendor call to finalize scope, specifications, and pre-shipment runoffs for capital equipment, then close the day with an 8D review, driving to root cause on a throughput bottleneck.

What you will own

  • Architect and deploy manufacturing systems for new product introductions, including process flow design, equipment selection, and detailed labor modeling
  • Author standard work, define assembly sequences, and implement robust error-proofing (poka‑yoke)
  • Develop efficient plant and line layouts grounded in Lean Manufacturing
  • Lead manufacturing readiness and end-to-end launch activities for new programs
  • Plan and coordinate installation, relocation, and validation of production assets
  • Serve as project lead for capital equipment and facility upgrades
  • Partner with suppliers and integrators to define scope of work, review specs, and validate equipment prior to shipment
  • Resolve production issues using structured problem-solving (8D, root cause analysis)
  • Continuously improve throughput, quality, and labor efficiency
  • Manage Engineering Change and drive cross-functional implementation
  • Apply AIAG Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA) throughout program life cycles
  • Support maintenance planning and equipment reliability initiatives; lead or coordinate maintenance activities when needed
  • Travel to customer and supplier sites for launches, audits, and validations
  • Coach junior engineers and contribute to team capability building
  • Embed safety into every system design and production process

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or assembly engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, production equipment, and processes
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and core engineering tools
  • Familiarity with AIAG Core Tools
  • PLC capability: able to program and troubleshoot
  • Experience managing suppliers, vendors, or contractors
  • Clear, confident communication and on-the-floor leadership

Preferred

  • 3–5 years in manufacturing engineering
  • Automotive or other high-volume assembly background
  • Exposure to robotics, automation, or controls systems
  • Maintenance planning or leadership experience
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
  • Capital project management or equipment installation experience

Compensation

  • $85,000 to $100,000+/year - based on experience

Candidates with significant manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
