Description:
Our client is seeking a technical writer to improve existing and develop new technical documentation. The documentation being developed is for use by manufacturing and engineering teams.
Primary Purpose
Support a major documentation overhaul across the manufacturing plant. The role will focus on updating and maintaining SOPs, work instructions, quality documents, and compliance documentation to support the organization's transition from ISO 9001 to AS9100 certification. The individual will work closely with the Document Control Coordinator and cross-functional process owners across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation Creation: Develop and improve work instructions, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and job aids.
Collaboration: Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, and operations gather information and ensure accuracy in documentation.
Research: Investigate and analyze technical information from various sources to create comprehensive documentation that meets user needs.
Editing and Proofreading: Review and edit documentation for clarity, consistency, and adherence to company style guidelines.
Basic Project Management: Manage documentation projects, including planning, scheduling, and tracking progress to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, communication, technical writing, engineering, or science fields (preferred). Associate's degree or HS Diploma/GED with significant technical writing experience may be considered.
3+ years of technical writing experience, manufacturing environment experience preferred.
Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams). PTC Windchill system experience is a plus.
Ability to understand technical processes being documented. Optics knowledge is a plus.
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in all documentation produced.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, adapting to changing project requirements and deadlines.

Strong ISO 9001 & AS9100 Knowledge
Understanding documentation requirements and compliance standards. AS9100 experience is strongly preferred.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Ability to work with process owners, operations, quality, planning teams, and document control personnel to update documentation.
Nice to Have
Experience with PTC Windchill Document Control System.
Experience with ETQ Quality Management System.
Auditor certifications related to ISO 9001 or AS9100.
Quality background with experience creating SOPs, compliance documents, and guidelines.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel).
