Airport Maintenance Technician

Location: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix, AZ 85034
Pay Rate: $25.00–$27.14 per hour
Employment Type: Contract, with potential for direct hire
Contract Length: Three to six months
Openings: Two
Schedule: 42 hours per week, including weekends and holidays
Work Arrangement: Fully onsite
Interview Process: 30-minute onsite interview

Schedule

Candidates must be able to work one of the following schedules:

• Sunday through Wednesday
• Wednesday through Saturday
• Three 12-hour shifts and one six-hour shift each week
• Wednesday will always be the six-hour shift
• Candidates must be flexible and able to work all required hours and schedules

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking experienced Manufacturing Technicians II to maintain, diagnose, and repair Passenger Boarding Bridges and related airport equipment at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

This is a hands-on maintenance position working outside on the airport ramp and tarmac around aircraft, vehicles, and heavy equipment. Technicians will perform scheduled and emergency maintenance involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and conveyor systems.

The ideal candidate will have three to five years of maintenance experience, strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work safely in a fast-paced airport environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Passenger Boarding Bridges and related airport equipment.
• Perform scheduled, unscheduled, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
• Repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot industrial controls, motors, wiring, and related electrical components.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical instructions, and work orders.
• Complete preventive and corrective maintenance logs and required paperwork.
• Accurately document maintenance activities using a computerized maintenance management system.
• Respond quickly to operational issues and equipment breakdowns.
• Clear baggage jams and support baggage conveyor operations.
• Operate golf carts, company vehicles, forklifts, and other authorized equipment.
• Communicate equipment conditions and repair updates to supervisors and team members.
• Follow all company, airport, and federal safety and security procedures.
• Complete required safety, equipment, and airport security training.
• Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three to five years of maintenance operations experience.
• Strong mechanical repair and troubleshooting skills.
• Hands-on electrical maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the airport security clearance and credentials required for the position.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and the assigned schedule.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively to urgent maintenance issues.
• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to following safety procedures while working around aircraft and heavy equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with 480-volt electrical systems and three-phase motors.
• Experience repairing mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
• Previous airport operations or aviation maintenance experience.
• Experience maintaining Passenger Boarding Bridges.
• Experience with baggage handling, conveyor, or material-handling systems.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management software.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
• Experience operating forklifts or other industrial equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Ability to work from ladders and in small or confined spaces.
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
• Sufficient close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision to perform maintenance duties safely.
• Ability to adjust visual focus while inspecting and repairing equipment.

Work Environment

• Work will be performed onsite at an active airport.
• Technicians will work outside on the airport ramp and tarmac around aircraft, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
• The position involves exposure to moving mechanical equipment, elevated work areas, changing weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, cold temperatures, vibration, and loud noise.
• Personal protective equipment and strict compliance with airport safety requirements will be mandatory.
