CONTRACT.
Test technician is necessary to characterize a wide variety of materials, both at low, room, and high temperatures, to observe the effects on tensile, yield strength, bending, and compression.
Key Responsibilities: Sample Preparation: Molded, machining or cutting materials into standardized samples (dog bones or coupons) to ensure accurate, consistent testing.
• Machine Operation: Setting up the tester with appropriate grips/fixtures for different materials (e.g., metals, textiles, plastics).
• Temperature Conditioning; set-up up and run samples in a chamber to achieve the required soak temperature.
• Testing Procedure: o Running tests by applying a controlled tensile /yield load (pulling force) until the material breaks, monitoring the load and extension simultaneously. o Running tests by applying a controlled compression load (pushing force) until the material fails, monitoring the load simultaneously.
.Running tests by applying a controlled load (pushing force) with a specimen on a 3-pt bending fixture unit the material fails, monitoring the load and deflection simultaneously.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Using software to calculate material properties such as yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and Young's modulus, often outputting data on a stress-strain curve.
• Compliance & Safety: Following strict standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) to ensure safety and quality, especially for critical materials in construction or medical industries.
Typical Requirements & Tools • Proficiency with grips, extensometers, strain gauges, and data analysis software (e.g., MTGenius).
