R.E. Staite is a small business, heavy civil general engineering contractor, with its facilities located in San Diego, California. For over 80 years, R.E. Staite has specialized in marine and heavy civil construction, piers, wharfs, marinas, deep pile foundations, bridge construction and dredging, successfully completing projects along the western seaboard from Panama to Alaska. R.E. Staite performs a high percentage of projects with its own forces and specialty equipment.
R.E. Staite is seeking full time Marine Construction Estimator
Range of responsibilities may include:
Handle all parts of the estimating process; prepare bids, interpret blue prints, conduct site checks, perform quantity take offs, prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers to bid, identify applicable wage rates, determine pricing strategies, negotiate contracts, attend site visits and handle change orders
Maintain access to USACE, Navy, and other federal and local agencies, as well as local shipyard and commercial procurement websites, routinely checking for new bid opportunities and customers
Develop project work plans, schedules, and submittals by studying project plans and specifications; calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements
Draft subcontracts, interfacing with owners/engineers of record, preparing submittals and RFIs
Develops and maintains appropriate electronic and hard copy reports and records
Performs other duties as assigned or required
Basic qualifications:
5+ years marine construction estimating experience
PE certification preferred
Degree in civil or construction related engineering, preferred, not required
Ability to read blueprints, perform accurate quantity take-offs, solicit material and subcontractor quotations, identify potential subcontractors and understand labor crews, utilized applicable wage rates, equipment allocations and production rates for various civil and marine applications.
Highly organized and motivated
Ability to communicate (written & verbal) successfully with co-workers and external costumers/clients
Proven ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Internet savvy with competence in Microsoft Office applications. Strong MS Excel proficiency. Willingness to learn new software systems. Knowledge of HCSS a plus.
Must have a valid U.S. driver's license, pass a drug test, and be able to pass a federal background investigation
Additional consideration will be given to applicants who have 5+ years of experience with government (USACE & NAVFAC) construction/dredging contracts
