This position requires the individual to have extensive experience in planning and executing the installation of shipboard electrical system including cabling and equipment installation. Extensive experience with 46 CFR subchapter "T", "K", ABS and Lloyds ship rules. Knowledge and use of IEEE 45 Recommended Practices for Shipboard Installations. Must also be experienced with reading and producing the necessary documentation, (i.e., drawings, diagrams, forms, and reports). Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and has the capability to lead and teach a small crew. This is a deck plate working position mentoring a small team.ResponsibilitiesResponsible to oversee Craft Personnel performing workAble to take on multiple tasks/projects while working independentlyDesign and troubleshoot moderate complexity circuitsReview wireway designs and confirm viabilityReview Multi Cable Transits for size and location related to electrical designInstall wiring and components.Connect generators, transformers, and motors.Use test equipment and troubleshoot common issues.Estimate types and quantities of materials needed for assignments.Pack and Seal Fire and Watertight transits (MCTs)Knowledge and proficient use of hand and power tools.Ability to lay out and perform work independently with minimal supervision.Able to generate Job Safety Analysis, and give direction to crew membersAble to coach and train other employees on the job tasksAble to inspect and verify quality of workAble to coordinate work with other craftsTimekeeping of crew membersDelegation of workScheduling of workOrdering parts and equipment in collaboration with PurchasingAssist with project estimationsRequired Skills & AbilitiesSkilled in 480 VAC, and 208/ 240 VAC, 1 and 3 phase systemsSkilled in 12VDC and 24 VDC systemsPLC programming and useVFD Installation and ProgramingLow Voltage Alarm and Control SystemsInstallation and Connection of Bridge ElectronicsInstallation and Connection Phone and Network SystemsInstallation and Connection of Fire Detection and Bilge Alarm SystemsSkilled in the use of various test equipment (Megger, VOM, Amp-meters, etc.)Experience in troubleshooting, repair, and installation of motors and motor controlsExperience in performing and documenting operational testing of various electrical equipmentComprehension of schematic diagrams, technical manuals, and the ability to create hand-drawn diagrams of disconnected and/or removed electrical equipment, and the availability to work late afternoons, early mornings, and weekends as neededQualificationsMinimum of 5 years of new vessel construction electrical installation8-10 years combined marine and industrial repair and new construction electrical experienceApplicants are required to pass a pre-employment drug screen prior to employment start. Physical requirementsPosition requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, overhead work, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, such as accessing manholes, and awkward positions for long periods of time. Must be able to conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in environment where harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, gases, etc. might be present and the use of a respirator may be required. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions/areas that at times are not environmentally controlled.
