Core Purpose

  • Lead financial management, reporting and control activities of the Marine business, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely financial information.
  • Provide commercial finance support and insight to operational and senior management to drive informed decision-making and business performance.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes while ensuring compliance with policies, accounting standards and statutory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, controls and reporting, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, Group Finance and external advisors.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Financial Reporting:

  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts in accordance with Group reporting timetables.
  • Prepare monthly profit and loss analysis, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting reporting schedules.
  • Produce monthly financial commentary and variance analysis for senior management and Board reporting.
  • Prepare divisional reporting packs and support Business Unit performance reviews.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify trends and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational performance.
  • Investigate and report on financial factors influencing business results.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial activities of the Marine business.
  • Monitor and analyse accounting data, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial information.
  • Maintain robust accounting processes, policies and internal controls in line with Group standards.
  • Establish and maintain financial records and documentation to support all accounting transactions.
  • Support entity finance teams with technical accounting queries and operational finance matters.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, processes and reporting efficiencies, implementing corrective actions where required.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting activities.
  • Work closely with operational managers to develop realistic financial forecasts and business plans.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, highlighting risks, opportunities and corrective actions.

Statutory Compliance and Audit:

  • Coordinate year-end financial reporting and support the preparation of statutory financial statements.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors and regulatory bodies, when necessary, to ensure all statutory reporting requirements are met.
  • Support internal and external audit activities and implement recommendations where appropriate.
  • Support the Group tax team in preparation of corporation tax returns, in both domestic and foreign jurisdictions.
  • Prepare and file VAT returns.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation and financial policies.

Payroll and Pension Administration:

  • Oversee monthly payroll processing using information provided by Human Resources.
  • Administer company pension schemes and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.

Business Partnering:

  • Develop strong working relationships with operational management, senior leadership and finance colleagues.
  • Provide commercial and financial support to business managers to aid decision-making.
  • Deliver meaningful financial insight through analysis, reporting and performance reviews.
  • Support ad hoc projects, business initiatives and continuous improvement activities across the Marine division.

QHSE Responsibilities

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG's QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role.

Comply with the requirements of OEG Energy Group Policies and the responsibilities within the wider QHSE Management System.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum five years' relevant finance management experience.
  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager role, ideally within the marine, offshore, shipping, engineering or energy sectors.
  • Strong management accounting, financial reporting and analytical skills.
  • Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and statutory reporting.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to interpret financial information and provide practical business recommendations.
  • Experience of managing financial controls and improving finance processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial systems knowledge.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Logical problem-solving ability with a proactive and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, dynamic operational environment.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA, or CIMA) or equivalent.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline is desirable.
