An established and growing shipyard in Portland, Oregon is seeking an experienced Rigger / Forklift Operator to support vessel repair and construction projects. This position works closely with trade leads and crane operators to safely coordinate lifts and transport materials throughout the yard and dry dock areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with heavy industrial, marine, construction, or shipyard experience looking for long-term, stable employment with overtime available.
Responsibilities
Coordinate material picks with trade leads and crane operators.
Select and inspect proper rigging equipment for each lift.
Utilize verbal and visual crane signals to ensure safe lifting operations.
Operate forklifts to transport materials and equipment throughout the yard.
Identify and organize parts and materials within the laydown yard.
Inspect rigging equipment including:
Nylon slings
Wire rope slings
Shackles
Blocks
Chain hoists and falls
Notify personnel of active lifts using whistles and established safety procedures.
Assist with tie-ups of dry docks, tugboats, and barges.
Support maintenance of facility grounds and equipment.
Work safely and effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Maintain a strong commitment to quality and safety.
Qualifications
Required
Previous experience in rigging and material handling.
Knowledge of rigging equipment, including slings, shackles, sheaves, cables, and lifting devices.
Experience operating forklifts in an industrial environment.
Ability to identify and locate materials within a laydown yard.
Understanding of safe work practices and lifting procedures.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Preferred
Shipyard, marine, heavy industrial, or construction experience.
Experience working around cranes and heavy lifts.
Familiarity with tug, barge, or dry dock operations.
Compensation & Benefits
$28.00 $34.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Standard work schedule of approximately 50 hours per week.
Overtime opportunities available.
