Join Us as a Maritime Pipe Welding Specialist

Step into a fast-paced Gulf Coast shipyard environment where your precision welding keeps complex piping systems flowing on active maritime builds and refits. From Panama City, FL to Mobile, AL, Pascagoula, MS, and Lockport & Houma, LA, you will fabricate and install pipe on a variety of vessels while working to exacting standards.

A day in this role

  • Lay out, fit, and weld stainless steel and copper-nickel pipe systems aboard ships and on platforms.
  • Execute GTAW (TIG), SMAW (stick), and FCAW (flux-core) processes with consistency and accuracy.
  • Operate within an around-the-clock manufacturing setting—work may involve heights, confined spaces, changing weather, and day or night shifts depending on ship build schedules, including work in Ingalls shipyard production areas.
  • Adhere to stringent safety practices; at West Hill Staffing, our procedures meet—and often exceed—industry standards.

What you bring

  • 4+ years of dedicated pipe welding experience.
  • Hands-on proficiency with GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (stick); familiarity with FCAW is a plus.
  • Capability to pass a military standard X-ray weld test on stainless and copper-nickel in the 6G (restricted) position.
  • Ability to pass military-spec assessments in the 2G (horizontal), 3G (vertical), and 4G (overhead) positions.

Qualification testing details

  • Pipe test conducted in a restricted 6G position on a 5'' Schedule 80 carbon steel pipe.
  • GTAW (TIG) for the root; 11018 electrode for fill and cap.

Core proficiencies

  • Soldering
  • Field measurements and precise layout
  • Tape measure reading
  • Setting up welding operations for production
  • Machine safety inspections
  • Machine setups for production runs
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Blueprint reading
