Description Specialization: Cardiology Heart Failure and Transplant Job Summary: HCA/St. David's HealthCare is seeking an accomplished, fellowship-trained Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist to serve as a market-level physician leader for the development, launch, and growth of an adult heart transplant and comprehensive advanced heart failure program in Austin, Texas. This is a rare opportunity to help build a de novo transplant program within a major regional cardiovascular platform. The selected physician will help establish transplant capability at St. David's Medical Center while strengthening the broader continuum of care across chronic heart failure, cardiogenic shock, temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support, LVAD, ECMO, and post-transplant management. Qualified Candidates The ideal candidate is more than an excellent clinician. This role requires a builder: a credible transplant cardiologist with the judgment, emotional intelligence, operating discipline, and peer influence to create a program under real-world startup conditions. The strongest candidates will be comfortable standardizing care, developing referral confidence, mentoring teams, managing ambiguity, and establishing a culture of accountability from the first patient's evaluation forward. Board certified or board eligible in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. Fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology required. Meaningful experience in heart transplantation, LVAD, temporary mechanical circulatory support, cardiogenic shock, and advanced heart failure program development. Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, build multidisciplinary trust, and align independent stakeholders in complex clinical environments. Experience launching, scaling, revitalizing, or materially improving transplant, LVAD, cardiogenic shock, or advanced heart failure programs preferred. Clinical research, quality improvement, registry, device, or industry-partnership experience preferred, but not required. Texas medical license or ability to obtain. Incentive/Benefits Package HCA/St. David's HealthCare Physician Services employed opportunity. Competitive compensation package with leadership/directorship opportunity commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement, CME, and malpractice coverage. Relocation assistance and signing incentives considered in appropriate circumstances. Opportunity to build a major regional program in a no state income tax market. About St. David's Medical Center St. David's Medical Center is a full-service, acute care hospital located near downtown Austin and the University of Texas campus. The hospital serves as a major tertiary platform for complex cardiovascular care and is supported by broad subspecialty services, including critical care, nephrology, infectious disease, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, neurology, and comprehensive stroke capability. St. David's HealthCare is one of the largest health systems in Central Texas and part of HCA Healthcare. The system has the infrastructure, market reach, and executive commitment to develop a comprehensive advanced heart failure and transplant program serving Austin, Central Texas, and surrounding referral markets. Austin is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic markets in the United States, known for its technology sector, university presence, cultural vitality, outdoor lifestyle, and favorable Texas tax environment. For a physician leader seeking both programmatic impact and quality of life, Austin offers a compelling platform for long-term professional and personal investment.
