ABOUT THE ROLE 

As Daymark’s California Medical Director you will be the senior clinical leader for our California market and will set the clinical vision and standard of care for patients with cancer across Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. You will work in a dyad leadership model alongside the Market Vice President combining clinical expertise and operational excellence to deliver on our mission. You will lead the care team from our Los Angeles Hub and oversee Daymark's Medical Director, Supportive Care and Physicians across LA, San Diego, and San Francisco. This role reports directly to Daymark's CEO. You must be an oncology-trained physician with a strong grounding in palliative care in this position. It’s critical you believe better is possible for patients with cancer, and you want to help build a new model of value-based cancer care.

What You’ll Do

You will lead Daymark’s California care team, based in Los Angeles. You will uphold clinical policy and quality standards and serve as the face of Daymark’s clinical program with providers and health plan partners in California. 

• Market Leadership: 
  • You will launch Daymark’s market in California alongside the VP of Market Operations and COO. Together, you’ll set market-level KPIs across clinical outcomes, quality, enrollment, and patient experience and hold the team accountable to them.
  • The California Market VP owns the P&L, however, you’ll share accountability for how the clinical model drives financial performance, including total-cost-of-care savings and fewer avoidable acute-care visits.
  • You’ll work closely with our payer and provider partners to represent Daymark in the market.
  • You will partner on hiring, team management, and day-to-day operations to build a high-performing team and keep clinical operations both high quality and sustainable.
    
    
• Clinical Leadership:
  • You will own the care model and quality standards for California. You'll build a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and evidence-based practice across the care team. 
  • You will lead the clinical team from the Hub. This includes directly managing the Medical Directors, Supportive Care and Physicians and providing clinical oversight and supervision for the market's nurses and Nurse Practitioners. You will be the collaborating physician of record for the market's Nurse Practitioners, consistent with California requirements. 
  • You will be the clinical point of escalation for the care team. When a patient's needs become complex or high-acuity, you guide the team through clinical decisions, manage that complexity, and coordinate with the patient's treating oncologist and other partners. Your clinical work is team-based and led from the Hub. This role does not include in-home visits. You will also take part in remote on-call escalation coverage as needed.
  • You will work with Daymark’s national leadership to refine and improve our care model and bring clinical expertise to the design of new programs, processes, and clinical workflows as Daymark scales.
    
    
• Partnerships:
  • You will be Daymark's senior clinical representative to oncology practices, primary care physicians, health systems, and health plan partners in California. You'll build trust and bring clinical credibility to those relationships. You will represent Daymark in clinical case conferences and joint operating meetings with provider and payer partners.

What We Are Looking For

• You are a board-certified physician (MD or DO) in medical, radiation, or surgical oncology, or a closely related specialty.  You hold an active, unrestricted California medical license or are willing to obtain one. You have at least 5 years of oncology practice, including direct patient care, and experience leading or supervising clinical teams. You are comfortable being accountable for the clinical performance of a market or practice.
• You have a deep working knowledge of palliative care and see it as core to excellent oncology care. Formal training or board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine is a strong plus.
• You have experience with, or a strong interest in, value-based, virtual, and home-based models of cancer care. You are familiar with oncology value-based payment models such as the Oncology Care Model (OCM) and the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM). You want to help build a new standard of care rather than replicate the status quo.
• You know how to partner effectively with an operational counterpart, sharing accountability for outcomes while respecting the distinct clinical and operational lenses each of you brings. You use clinical and operational data to monitor outcomes, find gaps, and drive improvement. You communicate well with internal teams and with health plan and provider partners.
• You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are energized by building and iterating on new clinical programs and processes. You are comfortable with technology, able to learn new systems and tools, and you think creatively about ways to leverage technology to improve care.

Additional Information

The expected compensation for this role is $350,000 to $450,000 annually, depending on location & experience.
