Market & Optimization Scientist

The Market Solutions & Optimization Technology group performs design, modeling and analysis work for ISO markets; applies advanced optimization technology to ISO problems; and conducts interdisciplinary research in power system economics, optimization and engineering. The group provides a unique opportunity to work on fundamental and innovative solutions to challenging industry problems. We work closely with engineers and economists across multiple ISO departments and collaborate with various external research entities. As a member of this group, you will play a vital role in improving the ISO's markets, operations and planning, and your work will help shape the horizon of power industry.

As a scientist in this group, you will apply knowledge and skills from a wide range of fields including mathematical optimization, economic theory and power system engineering to tackle major challenges in ISO's markets, operations and planning. You will also analyze the problems, design innovative solutions, develop prototypes and oversee the implementation.

How you will make an Impact

Analyze and assess market designs or operations/planning processesDevelop and prototype models/solutions for market design and optimization problemsResearch electricity market designs to facilitate the region's transition to clean energyResearch new optimization technologies to improve scheduling and pricing of electricity marketsPerform market/operations/planning simulations and analyze the resultsAssist other ISO departments in identifying, analyzing and solving problemsSupport stakeholder processes and FERC filings

What we are looking for

A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical/Industrial/System Engineering, Operations Research or related areasStrong knowledge/experience in power system modeling, analysis and optimizationGood understanding of electricity markets, power system operations and planningExperience with optimization solver such as CPLEX/GUROBI and programming languages such as Java/PythonExcellent written/verbal communication skills and analytical skills5+ years of experience is required for the Senior/Lead level

The expected salary range for this position is $130,000 - $165,000 per year.
