Position Summary

The Communications and Marketing Associate will support the Center for Rural Education and Development, the Quillen Chair, and regional education initiatives by coordinating and implementing communications, marketing, and project support activities. This role focuses on developing and disseminating informational materials, supporting digital and social media presence, and creating visual content, including photography, to enhance outreach and engagement efforts.

The position contributes to increasing the visibility, effectiveness, and coordination of Center initiatives by ensuring consistent messaging, high-quality visual storytelling, and organized implementation processes across multiple grants and partnerships. Work will follow established university branding, communication standards, and project procedures while supporting day-to-day operational and outreach needs.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Communications and Marketing Support:

  • Draft, edit, and distribute communications materials including newsletters, announcements, reports, and promotional content.
  • Develop and format outreach materials such as brochures, flyers, presentations, and digital content aligned with ETSU branding and style guidelines.
  • Review and proof materials for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to communication standards.
  • Assist in implementing communication plans for Center initiatives, events, and grant activities.

Digital, Visual, and Social Media Content:

  • Create, schedule, and manage content across web and social media platforms.
  • Capture and edit photography for use in marketing materials, social media, websites, and reports.
  • Develop basic multimedia content (graphics, photos, short videos) to support outreach, storytelling, and engagement.
  • Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Organize and maintain a digital archive of photos and visual assets for Center use.
  • Monitor engagement and assist with strategies to enhance online presence and audience reach.

Project and Implementation Support:

  • Track project timelines, deliverables, and implementation activities across multiple initiatives.
  • Maintain organized records, trackers, and documentation for communications and project activities.
  • Support coordination of communications and deliverables tied to grants and partnerships.
  • Assist with compiling materials for reports, sustainability documentation, and program updates.

Event and Logistical Support:

  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, trainings, and events, including scheduling, materials preparation, and follow-up communication.
  • Provide event photography and visual documentation of Center activities and initiatives.
  • Assist with development of event-related promotional materials and communications.
  • Coordinate with vendors (e.g., printers) and track production timelines.

Stakeholder and Administrative Support:

  • Support communication with internal and external partners to ensure timely information sharing.
  • Maintain organized files of communications materials, media, and project documents.
  • Assist with data entry and maintenance of communication and project tracking systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with basic photography and photo editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, website management, and digital communication tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based, multi-project environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, professional outputs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, education, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in communications, marketing, project coordination, or administrative support functions.
  • Demonstrated experience creating written, digital, and visual content (including photography).
