Position Overview:

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator supports Friends of the Children–Los Angeles' fundraising, community engagement, and brand visibility efforts through compelling storytelling, content creation, event support, donor communications, and digital marketing. This role is ideal for a highly organized, creative professional who is passionate about social impact and eager to grow a career in nonprofit marketing and advancement.

Working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and Advancement Team, this position helps ensure consistent and inspiring messaging across donor communications, social media, email marketing, events, and organizational materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Brand Marketing & Digital Communications

· Develop and execute marketing strategies that increase awareness of Friends of the Children–Los Angeles and its mission.

· Create, schedule, and manage content across social media platforms.

· Maintain an editorial calendar aligned with organizational priorities and campaigns.

· Monitor digital engagement and analytics, providing regular performance reports and recommendations.

· Manage and update the organization's website to ensure content is current and engaging.

· Ensure consistent brand standards, messaging, and visual identity across all communications.

Content Development & Storytelling

· Write and edit donor newsletters, email campaigns, blog posts, website content, press materials, and organizational communications.

· Develop compelling stories highlighting the impact of youth, caregivers, Friends, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

· Coordinate photography, video, and multimedia content collection.

· Support production of annual reports, impact reports, stewardship pieces, campaign communications, and other publications.

· Collaborate with program staff to identify meaningful stories and program updates.

Design

· Design professional presentations, board decks, campaign materials, sponsorship packages, impact reports, one-pagers, and donor proposals.

· Create digital and print collateral that supports fundraising, marketing, volunteer engagement, and organizational initiatives.

· Translate complex information into visually engaging graphics and presentations.

· Ensure all materials align with organizational branding and accessibility standards.

· Maintain templates and branded assets for organizational use.

Advancement Support

· Develop donor stewardship communications and acknowledgment materials.

· Create fundraising collateral for individual, corporate, and foundation partners.

· Prepare donor briefing materials, meeting packets, and campaign presentations.

· Support campaign communications and donor engagement initiatives.

Events & Community Engagement

· Support marketing and communications for fundraising events, volunteer activities, and community engagement opportunities.

· Develop event promotional materials and attendee communications.

· Capture stories, photography, and content during events for future marketing and stewardship.

· Assist with post-event follow-up and impact communications.

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

· Two to four years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit advancement, or a related role.

· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong editing and storytelling abilities.

· Demonstrated experience designing professional presentations, marketing collateral, reports, and digital content using Canva and Microsoft PowerPoint (experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus).

· Experience managing social media platforms, website content, and email marketing systems such as Mailchimp.

· Strong understanding of branding, digital marketing, and audience engagement strategies.

· Highly organized with excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Little Green Light, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar) is preferred.

· Photography, videography, and basic photo/video editing experience are a plus.
