    Description

    Job Summary:

    The Events Specialist plans, organizes, supervises, and supports recreational programs and special events for the City of Greenville. This position assists with year-round programming and large-scale community events, ensuring safe, well-organized, and engaging experiences for residents of all ages and abilities. The Events Specialist provides direct support to the Marketing and Events Coordinator in planning, promoting, and facilitating Parks and Recreation events and works closely with vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by event needs.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, sports management, business administration, public administration, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and at least three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative or event-related experience may be considered.
    • Experience: Experience in event planning, recreation programming, or community engagement preferred.
    • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas driver's license required.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Plans, organizes, and implements Parks and Recreation special events and recreational programs.

    • Coordinates event setup, on-site operations, and teardown to ensure successful execution.

    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with vendors, sponsors, volunteers, community partners, and the public.

    • Manages communications and coordination with vendors and sponsors, including payments and fundraising support.

    • Provides customer service by answering phones, responding to inquiries, and providing information regarding events, programs, and facilities.

    • Assists with promotional efforts for events, including basic graphic creation, photography, and content support under the direction of the Marketing and Events Coordinator.

    • Captures photos and videos at events for marketing and promotional use.

    • Maintains accurate records of attendance, vendor participation, expenses, and supplies.

    • Assists other departments and staff as needed to support City events and initiatives.

    • Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulations.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles and practices of event planning and coordination.

    • Customer service standards and public engagement.

    • Vendor and partner relationship management.

    • Basic marketing and promotional tools, including Canva or similar design platforms.

    • City policies and procedures.

    Skills in:

    • Event organization, coordination, and on-site problem-solving.

    • Communication with diverse audiences, both orally and in writing.

    • Organization, multitasking, and time management.

    • Basic graphic design, photography, and digital content support.

    • Working effectively under pressure and adapting to changing conditions.

    Physical Demands/Work Environment:

    Work is performed in office, park, and outdoor event environments. Subject to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting materials weighing up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Requires coordination of eye, hand, and foot movement to operate vehicles, carts, or event equipment. Exposure to varying weather conditions and extended work hours based on event schedules.
