Description

The County Parks and Recreation Department plans, develops, and maintains parks, and provides an array of organized activities to help meet the leisure needs of the citizens of the County. At the present time, the Department is maintaining and managing 18 parks. The most recent additions to the park system is South Point Access.

Examples of Duties

An hourly salary range of $27.45 - $32.60 is anticipated for this position.

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

Marketing, Communications & Media Production

  • Print & Digital Publications: Develop, design, and manage print and digital publications, promotional materials, brochures, flyers, signage, and other marketing assets for departmental programs, events, facilities, and services, including Senior Center and Senior Games.

  • Marketing & Communications: Plan and implement marketing campaigns that promote departmental programs, events, facilities, and initiatives through a variety of communication channels. Evaluate marketing and recreation trends, audience engagement, and campaign performance to support strategic planning and communication efforts.

  • Newsletter Management: Develop, manage, maintain, and distribute the departmental newsletter in a timely manner.

  • Social Media Management: Manage departmental social media platforms, including those supporting Gaston County Parks & Recreation, the Gaston County Senior Center, and Senior Games, by creating and scheduling engaging content, monitoring performance metrics, and evaluating analytics to improve communication strategies.

  • Photography & Videography: Coordinate photography and videography for departmental programs, events, facilities, and activities by capturing media when available and collaborating with the County Communications Department, Gaston County Tourism, and other approved partners as needed.

  • Website & Digital Content: Develop, maintain, and update website content and other digital communications while collaborating with internal departments, community organizations, and partner agencies to share timely and accurate information.

Special Events, Programs & Community Engagement

  • Special Events & Festivals: Coordinate and support the planning, organization, and execution of county-sponsored festivals, special events, and community programs in collaboration with departmental staff, Gaston County Tourism, and community partners.

  • Volunteer & Personnel Coordination: Recruit, coordinate, schedule, train, and supervise volunteers and other event support personnel to ensure successful event operations.

  • Vendor & Community Relations: Serve as the primary liaison for vendors, sponsors,community organizations, and event partners by fostering collaborative relationships that enhance departmental programs and events.

  • Senior Center & Senior Games: Coordinate marketing, volunteer engagement, event support, and operational assistance for the Gaston County Senior Center and Senior Games to promote successful programs and continuity of services.

  • Community Partnerships & Representation: Represent the department, as needed, at community meetings, committees, public events, and Interdepartmental functions.

  • Serve as a liaison and point of contact for community partners, including Special Olympics and otherorganizations, to foster collaborative relationships and support departmental initiatives as assigned.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Administrative Support: Serve as backup to the Administrative Coordinator and provide administrative support to maintain efficient departmental operations. Responsibilities include processing facility reservations, coordinating purchasing and financial transactions, maintaining office resources, and assisting with other administrative functions as assigned.

  • Program Evaluation & Reporting: Develop, distribute, and analyze surveys and participant feedback to evaluate programs and services, identify trends, and support continuous improvement of departmental operations and community offerings.

  • Other Duties: Perform alternative duties and support department-wide programs throughout the year as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency
  • Five years of relevant experience
  • Valid drivers license
